Default Cracked piston/broke ring lands on a turbo'd d series?

are there any tell tale signs of a fucked up ring land or cracked piston in a d-series?

mostly in engine noises. my d16a6 isn't smoking any more than usual but its making a really ugly noise some times.
i accidently boosted pretty hard this morning passing a truck with only 86 octane (poor college kid couldn't afford 91). I didnt hear knock but thats the only thing i can think of got messed up.

compression test. if it's good then be happy.

In the future, even if it means getting an 1/8th of a tank to get where you're going, realize that on an aftermarket boosted car without any kind of automatic timing retard, running 86 octane is a death warrent.

yes; else i could not have got to school this week.
i bummed some money off a friend and put a 1/2 tanl of 91 in there

and i dont think its a cracked pison anymore; the car has quite a bit of valvetrain clatter and it seems to be just that but louder and it only happens when coasting (engine revs stay about the same) not accellerating or decelerating.

oh and even if i didnt have a cracked pison i'm 90% sure the car would fail a comp/leakdown test miserably . i know the piston rings are fried or about fried; the engine has over 135k miles on it and the douche that had the car before me just slapped the turbo on; probably didnt even pull the valve cover to check anything. so yeah.
I'm going to pull the oil pan off tonight when its not a thousand ******* degrees outside and look at the botom of the pistons to see if its cracked or not.

well turns out #3 cylinder is fucked.

either broke ring lands or cracked piston
i'm not real surprised though, i've been pushing this car like mad; 12psi on stock internals and my timing maps are pretty ugly.

this engine was already on its last leg when i got it; i just chopped it off :D

i guess this means i can find a d16z6 long block now :D

smoked like crazy, no ugly noises....I could tell I lost a ton of compression as it would take a lot longer to turn over.

My car had not the slightest bit of smoke, only when i accelerated when the car was cold, and guess what? I removed all the pistons to find that EVERY single one had cracked ringlands.
BTW, you said it was worth it because you were able to get to school, but now that cylinder 3 is fucked, how do you plan on getting to school?
