I just made my own tonight. I didn't really finish it, but just tried it to make sure it worked. It seemed to work great, so I was going to start soldering/heat shrinking, but then I began to smell electrical smoke and sure enough, my profec was smoking. I used the correct parts list from radio shack that you listed. Why was it doing this? Do i need a resistor or could these be from my connections only being bare wire just twisted onto the switch and the stereo plug possible hitting eachother?

Sorry for the delayed response, this thread is so old I just about forgot about it. My guess would be check your wiring, I have been using mine as is for about 4 years now and no problems!
