Cool down time.........

I'm curious as to what other people have their turbo timers set to....... Right now, my greddy is in auto mode and will count up to 8 minutes and stops. Are 8 minutes adequate or overkill?

Re: Cool down time......... (whiteblurr)

I would say overkill. I set mine on regular anywhere from 30 to 60 secs.

booscivic Feb 12, 2004 04:00 PM

It all depends if you boosted or not. Usually just 1 min but if you been running 3 min

1 to 2 minutes should be fine.

i would say turbo timers are a waste of product....IMO.

your car cools better at a normal drive than standing still. Whenever you race, just drive normal and give it cool down time. I never had a turbo timer and never needed one. It's advertisment for crooks to steal your car. Just don't drive hard and shut the car off. That's not with just turbo but any car.

Agreed. Unless you really like to run hard and then turn your car right off, a turbo timer is really not needed. Even though I agree with you I admit that I have one. I keep it on the auto setting with a minimum of 20 seconds. It gets annoying.

i just stand next to my car while it cools off. that seems to work well https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

i traded my greddy turbo timer and intercooler for a larger intercooler. i hated waiting for my timer to go off when i'm in a hurry to get out and go somewhere.

Re: (shermanyang)

so theres really no need for a turbo timer?
i mean 8mins seems long.

I have the best turbo timer in the world, "ME" or in everyone elses case "your damn self"

It's Cheap and worry free.

TRE_ Feb 12, 2004 05:25 PM

i just set mine depending on how hard i ran my car before i turn it off. usually about 40 secs -- or like 2.5minutes if i drive it hard. but like everyone else said, i just drive it easy to let it cool down after i race or get into boost..

B18bEK Feb 12, 2004 05:33 PM

well the way i look at it .. i've had my turbo timer sitting in my room since i got turbo. i wouldn't just leave my car running without me being next to it even if it has the cutoff ebrake cable. so either way, i'm gonna be standing next to the car, making the timer useless https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

Re: (B18bEK)

dude remember its not how you stand by your car, its how you race your car.

Sorry man you left yourself wide open for it. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

haha, weirdos are the best entertainment ever, except for schooling V8s with a sohc honda that is.

I have a turbo timer. normaly 1min. The best part is that you can set it for like 9 min when it's really cold out and crank the heat before you go in a store or whatever. Nice and warm when you get it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif stripped hatchs seem to cool off fast ya know...

can't the key do the same job? although i am going to hook up my tt just because i have it already, and also have tons of spare time on my hands https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Bailhatch Feb 12, 2004 06:23 PM

Re: (B18bEK)

The key can't keep your car locked and running while your away from it. Plus I woulden't want to sit in my car with the heat all the way up for 9 min.

Re: (Bailhatch)

Ok, I'll take the time back down to 1:30...hehe

mines set to auto , and honestly it stays on longer when i drive the car normal than when i beat the shit out of it

racinskittle Feb 12, 2004 09:13 PM

Re: (Hella_JDM)

No turbo timer here. Usually just a short drive after I've beat on it for a little while and Im good to go. Maybe like it idle for 10 secs at most. The drive would probably be what's best for it. Gets some cold air on the turbo which is good.
