E-spec Tuner

hey, i am looking for a way to manage my fuel just for this summer before my motor gets built. im running a greddy 18g at 10psi on a b18c1. im looking for a fairly cheap way to manage my fuel since using the straight up blue box sucks, i have been told by some to use the HONDATA s100 and i've been told by some just to piggy back with a S-AFC. i live near payn technologies which does a tone of tuning and supposively i wont have to pay for tuning because they keep the maps and he would be able to put the correct chip in for free, so i wont have to pay for tuning with that. basically what i am looking to find out is pros/cons of each, if there are any hidden costs with either that im gonna come upon, and basically a comparison of both, any help would be great

well if you have the money you cant beat hondata. with a vafc all you will be able to do is trim/add fuel and change the v-tec point. you cant change ignition timing or anything like you could with hondata.

The safc hack and the hondata both will require some sort of tuning. You will get a basemap for the hondata which will be driveable, however, you should not boost in it even though it may seem good.

Some hidden costs that you probally didn't think of. Hondata and Safc hack will require you to run at least 440/450 cc injectors. Safc is cheaper but, the hondata will be better suited for you later when you run a built motor. So you are technically going to waste money buying the safc, dyno tuning it, and buying injectors (which probally won't let you go over 450's and you will want more than that later with a built motor).

My suggestion? Hondata s100, get some big injectors from viren or whoever on here, get a semi decent street tune from a local hondata person (payntech is good but, will probally cost u a grip and when you build up your motor your going to need a good tune again).

well payn said he has the basemap and i wont have to tune now, he's tuned so many cars he'll have the chip i need for my set-up, im really not gonna plan ahead at all, except for the fact that i know with hondata it is upgradable. i figure with the S-AFC i will have to pay a **** for tuning, and with the hondata he only charges 50 bucks to use the map and everything, so it may come out equalling the same

Base maps are just that, they are a base to get you to the dyno. You arent really supposed to drive to much on them, or even boost on them. Hondata does a good job of making their generic maps very conservative, but its not worth the risk. 50.00 for a basemap, that is ridiculous. That is 5 minutes of work to make a base map. Your engine is going to be different than the other engines that he has tuned. If one tuned b16a motor was the same as the rest, then one person would have to have their motor tuned and everyone could just use that chip, but it doesnt work that way. Get hondata, and get it tuned. Its ok to drive on the maps, but DONT boost on them. Your asking for trouble.

I think one huge advantage w/ Hondata is the partial throttle tuning, which you can't do with an S-AFC... hopefully run a little better on the street.

I'd go Hondata if you have the $$$.

So i do my 1st dyno run on the basemap and then tune it from there?
