Default CO2 chilled water/air intercooler?

First off. I drive a street car and I race sometimes at the local track. The track is where I want my performance.

I have a water over air intercooler and starion front mount. I'm looking at the pros and cons of this idea.

What happens if you spray CO2 directly in water? I assume it would chill it. My idea is that the system will not be pressurized, the extra pressure will vent out into away from the intake.

Worst case, I put on the front mount intercooler. Thats just a lot of extra piping compared to a straight shot from a water intercooler.

you get chunks of ice clogging the IC insides.

drop Ice packs in or something that wont melt into tiny bits and possibly clog lines

I never said anything about Ice, I asked what happens when you spray CO2 directly in water.

i think he was saying that if you spray CO2 in to water you are going to make ICE!
Which makes sense!

ya, shoulda been more clear, anyways, CO2 is an expensve(er?) way to chill your water. keep a jug of ice water in a cooler of ICE at the track.

co2 around here is pretty cheap, some places like paintball shops will give free refills.

Bad idea with the liquid oxygen there! Use CO2, trust me on this one.

Wouldn't it make carbonated water?

Any decompressing gas (especially if it's compressed to the point that it's a liquid) will cool the water.

anyways you can only cool the surface of the water by spaying it with CO2 and it wont be "penetrating" into the bottom of the tank.

ya CO2 is cheap , but ice is cheaper

are you talking about dry ice?

I think i'm going to take a madza front mount intercooler and turn it into a radiator.

CO2 chillers work off of gas laws, the drop in pressure and phase change from liquid CO2 to vapor CO2 causes a drop in temperature....as we all know.
Instead of injecting CO2 directly into a water reservior and making a mess to deal with......
Run a coil of aluminum tubing though the reservoir volume, similar to a fuel cooler tank. Run the CO2 though the tubing and try to vent the CO2 to the atmosphere a close to the tank as possible. The heat from the water will transfer to the coils.
Even if you do not have a CO2 supply you can still add ice to the water reservior.

I've used something like this before with interesting results....just a suggestion
