Default Clutch slips under boost... but only in 1st gear

JDM B18B, 50 trim t3/t4 seeing ~9lbs of boost

Clutch was slipping when I first got my setup tuned, so in order to really get it tuned properly I replaced the clutch with a brand new Competition Stg 2. Worked fine, was able to tune properly, etc.

Less than a year later, clutch is back to slipping. It ONLY seems to slip in first gear when I get on it and hit boost.... that is the rpm's fly up like I'm revving it in neutral, and I go nowhere.

The flywheel is OEM, and it DOES have hotspots, but from what I've head, that shouldn't have an issue on the clutch slipping.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why this might happen, and only in first gear under boost? Rest of the gears are fine and car pulls strong under boost.

Thanks

The stg. 2 disc is only rated to slightly over 200lbft of torque. You are probably exceeding this rapidly in first gear acceleration. The longer following gears likely are not shocking the clutch due to the more linear delivery of the torque. Basically, you should really go with a CC Stg. 3.5, very similar feel to the stg. 2 but with 150lbft more torque capacity or the slightly harsher engaging but slightly higher torque capacity of the cc stg. 4 I really like my stg. 3.5 so far though, its a newer disc and very stock like.

Op, are you sure you're not dealing with tire fire here? Is this happening on the street with street tires or at the strip with slicks? In my experience, clutches slip in higher gears not lower ones.

That's what I'm thinking. Also, if you didn't resurface the flywheel to fresh surface with a new clutch, it will slip as though it was like the old one.

I'll probably just end up replacing the flywheel with a non OE one... might as well while i have the tranny pulled anyways.

One of my buddies also said that it could be the spring fingers, and that they dont have enough clamping force on the initial hit.

I don't really think it's tire fire, but I could be wrong haha

The CC stg.2-4 pressure plates are exactly the same clamping force. It is your disc, could also be related to hot spots on your flywheel, maybe both.

A friends pressure plate came loose and would slip plus make a ticking noise. Remove the starter and have a friend slowly turn the crank pulley while you inspect the pressure plate bolts through the starter hole.

That's not a valid question. you need to check on the brands that interest you and search the various vendors here and other sources online to get an idea. There is no "average"
