Closed vs. Open loop
 

Is there any difference in power in running Closed loop vs open loop?

I have Uberdata and by a "mistake" i took the car for a spin with the O2 sensor disconnected from the plug and the car felt different.The response was better/quicker..It seemed like the car spolled slightly quicker and the low end of the car was noticeably better. At WOT the car felt slightly better even with 2 PSI less.It felt pushing harder with 2 psi less and it just ripped the tires all 3rd gear ..

The only thing is that the car threw a CEL while cruising normally.I turned off the car and started it again and the CEL was gone, still have the O2 disconnected

open loop, the ecu doenst read the o2 and reads only your map. I belive in partial throttle boast (less than 70% throttle) the ecu tries to get teh afr to 14.7. I had a freind running a kkk turbo in a dx and would lean out because the turbo would spool so fast that cruising in partial throttle he would be boosting. After diabling closed loop the car ran alot better. I imagine on a larger turbo setup this wouldnt matter much.

EDIT: Yea I should also have stated that I have a wideband on my car also so all the loads/RPM's are tuned to a certain A/F.

My partial throttle is all tuned by wideband so I get max fuel economy and perfect AFR's in and out of boost.

My program is set for closed loop, I love the stock-like drivability and 30mpg. If the closed loop threshold is set correctly, there should be absolutely no problems relating to boost.

I run open loop... the only problem I found is that on really hot and humid days (like honda day in NJ) my car runs like crap, A/F is more around 10:1 (same thing happened on the day I ran on a dyno)...

but other then those few days the car runs great with solid A/F's... since I have the S100 hondata I can't tune for the weather.

i was using uberdata, but recently started using crome. it has load based closed loop disable. much much easier to tune for me. just get it close in vac, le tthe o2 deal with it and tune up in boost and wahlaa you car drives like stock with less than an hour!

uberdata has load based closed loop disable as well.

I usually just tune WOT and part throttle in open loop, and if requested I leave it in open loop, but other than that I usually put it in closed loop. I think open loop makes the car run a lot smoother, but a possiblility of less MPG.

I was unaware of this. I thought it was a script in some new version. i have been using uber for 2 years, and recently when i went to 1.7, i cannot get the thing to run well with my 720's. it would go lean in certian cells, liek really lean for no apparent reason. i would add fuel, and it would still go rediculiously lean. do it some more and then BAM super rich. no middle ground. i decided to give crome a shot and well, it runs a million times smoother and easier to use. no bugs, no crashing, just works https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

i mean uber is great and i am not taking anything away from it, it to me does not feel finished ( i know it isnt, but....) perhaps in a couple months when things get sorted out ill give it another shot

Also advanced fuel modifiers, this has all came to be within the last couple months.

ooh not so. only on the fuel/inj tabs it does, not on the misc or datalogging tab. therefore i can never change my scalars or set the trigger for datalogging https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

i think the newest test version does. I know mine does. But not everything works with it yet.

Theres no reason to run around in closed loop with a properly tuned car. What happens when your wideband sensor goes bad, and you're relying on it to make changes to your fueling all the time?

you put in a stock o2 sensor, or put it in open loop.

But now with IAT and ECT stuff it will be a lot nicer to just leave it in open loop.

What I was referring to was the O2 sending a faulty signal that the car was hella rich, the ECU leaning the car out and then everything going to hell.

But yeah now that theres IAT corrections for Uberdata and the like things will be a lot better for those running them.

right on, I had that happen to me one time on the way home from the drags.. wasn't fun. Horrid gas mileage. Open loop is the way to go though with these new advancements, but I still run my car in closed loop. I am old school.. haha.
