Chris Testerman's Novice D16ZC Turbo Build Thread
I'm wanting to turbo my ek9, it has a d16zc sohc non vtec engine spark plugs in the front. I need advice for what all I need to get. I already have some 76mm oversized Vitara pistons, skunk2 alpha series connecting rods, walbro fuel pump, stage 4 competition clutch. I need ideas for a turbo kit, injector's, ECU ( I have an ECU from pherable but not sure if it's worth it) and any other advice I'm looking to make at least 400+ thanks in advance

If those pistons are YCP, the skunk rod pin end is a bit too big to fit. Something (rod or piston) will need machining to fit. Overbore cylinder should be ok for those rods, the WILL NOT fit in stock bore. Your girdle will require notching, block will not. They DO clear the walls pretty well.. I am building with these right now and am not happy with skunk's customer service. I've had better service from off-name ebay/Amazon companies that send me tips and spare parts without question.. XTD, Auto Dynasty, etc.. Anywho.. good luck with your build!

I ordered a kit from CXRacing. It served well until my block exploded BUT... You'll have many things to work around as far as fitment goes. It is a .63 exhaust .60 compressor T3.
fuel pump. A high pressure walbro 255 and some 440 injectors should be more than enough for you to see 400.
I started with a walbro 190 and it crapped out after 3 days.
there are some good cast manifolds available that should get you to 400 fairly well, they're ugly as sin though. If you don't care about looks, They're effective and stout.
I'd go the extra mile and add an intake manifold and throttle body. If I weren't so pissed off at skunk2 right now, I'd say their pro series mani and alpha 70mm throttle body would be sufficient.. The parts are nice, just don't expect much help from their customer service if you need it.

OEM bearings are arguably your best option, but will be costly. When you figure possibly having to mix and match a set of ACL or Kings (1 standard, 1 oversize, 1 undersize) you could spend the same or less. I got lucky with a set of clevite standards. But that's just me. Lol

I think 440’s would be small for 400 at the wheels. I would go with 1000’s to keep your duty cycle down and give room to grow. If using e85 I’d want 1200cc or more.

Boring the cyl and nothching the block is common practice on a D series with a H Beam rod. The "long" rod is the "better" rod in your case when using that super low comp. piston. It will give you a better ratio.
Making 400whp can easily be achieved through a basic and properly sized/matched QUALITY turbo kit. If ball bearing is in the budget then I would suggest that route (take into the consideration the compression being used).
