What kinda welding have we got going here? Looks like gasless fluxcore feed. Looks pretty good, is there just one guy doing this on the side?

Didnt you say that the IC wouldnt be cut. Another words, that weld going along the top/bottom of the IC wouldnt be there in the final shipped version. I think I recall you saying that.

BTW, the machined piping is a nice touch!

He sent us an email before we actually purchased that let us know that it would be cut. The welds look a little crooked, lol, but I dont really care that much about what it looks like as long as it works. Now I am anxious to get mine dammit! lol

Nice looking IC though. Wish I could have got one, but Im saving for my new motor. Plus the starion IC im currently using seems to be doing the job for now.

Welding aluminum is very difficult. Unless you do it everyday, you'll never get a really nice straight, even bead. Some of the things you have to take in consideration is the welder he's using, the gas mixture, wire type, feed speed, heat, thickness of two metals, type of joint. Also for aluminum, when you clean the surface with a brush of any sort its recommend to only brush in ONE direction, not back and forth etc. There are so many variables. For your average Joe this is considered a good job. If it were mild steel - i'd say take it back. The guy who's doing these really needs to setup a jig to keep the tip of the welder steady as he's welding. This could be done simply by using two people and a set of rollers to roll the intercooler infront of the gun as the welder joins the metals. It'll help to even out the bead and straigten his line. I found that if you arn't resting your arm on anything, its quite difficult to get a stead "machine like" bead.

Not to drop bombs....but those welds are ****-pore. At PWR they use a brand new $6000 dollar welder and the guy has been doing it for about 20 years. The PWR welds are 10 times better then that and I think they need to step it up a notch...price is high fore cut cores as well.

those are kinda **** pore welds. You are true about that mike. But the intercooler efficiency shouldnt be affected.

no sir the intercooler efficency will be based on how the intercooler is designed and how the intercooler opening are.

I know, it doesn't look good....

but like i said, it's not like a BRAND Name intercooler like greddy, apexi, or PWR
but it's a spearco core....
u always get what you pay for I do believe getting a intercooler with this size is a decent price even though it's cut, and it will look good enough when u put this behind the bumper, u will just be able to look at the core

Like the other guys said, it won't hurt it. As long as the welds get good penetration through both metals, you're ok, ie no boost leaks. The only disadvantage is the way the intercooler looks and its resale value. Like I mentioned earlier, A LOT could be improved on just by the way he's welding. His bead looks pretty good, he's got a good technique and his penetration is solid. This means his welder is decent but it looks as tho he's not using and shielding gas, just the wire with a flux core. Get this guy a nice chair, setup a jig and the welds will improve, i promise. Also, I noticed that if you have one beer before you weld, your work is pitifull, i know from experience.

About the welding expert, I'm not by any strech of the imagination. But after welding an entire custom 3" exhaust front to back, hangers included, a custom 3" downpipe, and intercooler pipeing, damn, I never wana weld again. But I have a little experience

The core looks good and the price is pretty good also, and i AM in the market for an fmic but those welds need to be cleaned up. I'd be really interested if the welds were nicer.
