Cheapest yet most powerful D16Y8/Z6 turbo kit.
I want to know where I can buy a complete turbo kit thats got more power than the affordable ($1,500) Greddy 92-95 Civic kit yet is still as or more complete than the Greddy one. I've heard that the Greddy kit doesn't add &^%& for power and thats why its so cheap. Anyone out there have any ideas? SSAutoChrome has goot some good looking half kits, but I dunno really bout them.
I'll be turboing the D16Y8 with a converted P06 ECU and OBD1 converson installed.

custom. I liked the greddy kit when I had it and people have seen 200whp with the greddy kits. I dont have any experience with the SSAC but I havent read too many good things about them. I have built my turbo setup for less than 1500 and it should comparable to teh greddy except I have an intercooler and tuning laptop

So the greddy kit is good? A honda guy here that races alot on the street said his friends D16Z6 with the Greddy kit sucked *** and wasn't a noticable difference, I find that hard to believe. So if I go OBD1 ECU wise can I get the 92-95 series Greddy kit? How complete is it really?

The greddy kit alone with wastegate boost (5psi) will not make too much power (135-155whp) But if you ditch the blue box and get it tuned properly you could make 250whp @ around 15psi with great torque. After that you'll most likely just be blowing hot air
It would make for a pretty fun car to drive.
If I were to do everything ALL OVER again, I probably would go with a Apexi kit since it is a complete kit, all you need to do is ditch the Apexi fuel setup and get tuned however you want to do it.
Sohc-T on here made 317whp on 21psi with the apexi kit

If you plan to use the greddy kit dont wiorry too much about the years. I had a 2000 coupe and the 92 - 95 kit fit perfectly. I beleive the newere 96-00 or whatever kits come with injectors (310 or 390 cc I cant remember)
I would go OBDI anyway to give you more control with tuning. Custom is always better but can be frustrating at times and if this is your first time, I would say go with a greddy kit or buy a custom one that is already finished and complete.

Pre-fab kits licks my nuts...</TD></TR></TABLE>
They do but at the same time can be helpful to the right person. I know I had little headaches about certain things when piecing my kit together. Like finding silicone hose in this shitty *** town. Or getting a decent DP fabbed up locally. Nothing that cant be solved on ebay or a FS ad oin here or other forums but still canb suck nonetheless. The greddy kit is a good beginner kit but for what you pay with the intercooler kit, you could have a custom setup and it be ten times better....
So custom
AS LONG AS YOU DO RESEARCH AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO!

Well help me, with the D16Y8 on my OBDII converted to OBDI 1996 Civic what all will I need to run right and not blow up?
I'll start buying pieces till I have it all by the end of the year and then next spring I'll put it together, unless I get a work Civic to drive then I'll park this one and boost it quicker cause I won't have to drive it.

Get an OBD2A - OBD1 conversion harness and run some form of engine management (uberdata, turboedit, hondata, etc), then buy everything you need
Turbo (w/gaskets)
Turbo Manifold (w/gasket)
Intercooler
Intercooler piping with couplers and clamps
Oil feed and return w/tap for your oil pan
Fuel Management (conversion harness, ECU, tuning software, injectors)
gauges (boost at least. I am going to run oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, boost, and EGT)
downpipe and exhaust
little **** like spark plugs (most people run two steps colder which would be 7 for your Y8. I see alot of peopel run BKR7E), coolant, oil and oil filter, tools you may need, and other stuff to do a tune up. I ma doing a bunch of stuff while/before I boost like change the oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, coolant flush.
I am sure I forgot something. The easiest thing to do is look at a pre fabbed turbo kit and see what comes with it and go from there.

Like with the Greddy 92-95 Pre Fabbed kit? Could I chunk the blue box, get some injectors and an intercooler/piping then do the ECU Uberdata and such? Also should I get a thicker headgasket to lower the compression so I don't destroy the engine?
