Default Cheapest Tuneing route for turbo

I've been peicing together a turbo kit for my stock b16 and was wondering a few things. Since I have a low budget and the majority of my money has been going towards turbo parts, what's a cheap way to tune after I get my kit set up. I want to run 6psi max with something cheaper but after a while I want to move up and build the engine and get a good Engine management system. I have some 450 DSM injectors I could use that could help me also. Since this car is going to be my daily driver I'm concerned about getting it tuned. Which I know I should have probably got something before I started buying all these turbo parts. Anyways I have a backup car in case something does go wrong though. Any opinions?

The CHEAPEST way to do it is an FMU or vafc. BUT, you need to be forward looking. These methods will no longer be the cheapest alternative when you blow your motor by skimping out to begin with and have to rebuild some or all of it....see what im saying?

So get your ecu chipped (150) and get it tuned (200) and youll be running MUCH better and safer.

And a vafc is like 250 so for only 100bucks more its still not that expensive compared to say hondata or aem ems

the vfc is more expensive than crome. cuz you have to buy the vafc $250-$275 and then get it tuned. well just stick with $200 cuz thats what you said, so that equals $450-475 vs the $350 for the crome and chipped ecu

You already have your own ecu..

I don't think everyone out there has an obd1 chippable ecu in their garages.

there are a few ways to look at this.

Having a tuner do it:
chipping ecu - $15-50 (varies)
tuning - $150-200 (street tune)

Doing it yourself:
chipping ecu - $15-50 (varies)
wideband o2 - $300 (approx)
datalogging - $10-35 (varies)
laptop - $300+ (already have one)
uberdata - free
crome - free
crome pro - $150
knowledge on the topic..........

take your pick.

Save up money and go the proven route such as Hondata s200, s300, or neptune etc. YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IN THE END.

According to Hondata's website:
s100 - $445
s200 - starting at $595 for boost
s300 - $595

Then tuning Hondata... [not sure about the tuning rates].

More than likely I will get hondata. I had a dang VAFC2 and sold it not to long ago because someone told me it was locked and I hooked it up and it wouldn't work so. I'll just keep getting stuff here and there till I'm ready so I don't do something crazy. How is Chrome and Uberdata free?

First off "cheap" and "turbo" dont go together. I had AEM EMS and switched to Crome recently due to me tuners suggestion. I have been able to get the car to run WAY better on Crome than it ever did on AEM EMS, Good luck...

Doesnt that imply that cheap (crome) and turbo do go together?

Woooot! I just solved my problem. I've heard some good things and bad things about it but my friend is willing to sell his AEM EMS to me for $700 and I can get that soon. You think that'd be a good deal?

aem ems has had its issues, but i think it would be WAY overkill for your setup, get a p28 chip it and convert to run your car it'll be around 400 bucks and then have that extra 300 for tuning

Didn't you just say you were on a low budget? Uberdata and Crome will work fine on your setup. You dont have anything spectacular that warants the $700 AEM. Also just to let you know hondata works the same way as the free ones so unless you got money to burn that probably aint the best route either.

I don't think he needs our help. We give suggestions and he doesn't listen at all. Then out of nowhere he brings up expensive engine management like hondata and aem ems when he initially said he was on a low budget and was looking for a cheap tune.

Yeah. I still need stuff for my turbo set up that I haven't got yet. And that's where that money was going to go to the rest of that stuff for that. That's why I wanted something cheaper for tuning.

So if you want something cheap for tuning, stop looking at hondata or aem ems. like these guys said earlier, Crome and Uberdata are free and will be fine for you. No need to dish out 700 for aem. Save the money, get a chipped p28, find a tuner, and use the money to pay for tuning and dyno time. you will be much happier in the end.

good luck.

I charge $200-$250 for a street tune on crome. plenty of 400-500+whp cars ....all proven. Find someone you can trust in your area.

Thanks to you guys I saved myself some money. I passed on the AEM and I'm now getting all my turbo stuff all set up. And when I get everything I'm gonna get Crome. I've been reading some stuff on it.
