Cheaper to piece together a turbo?
Will i come out on top if i piece a turbo together? I want some decent/good parts. Not a chrome plated SS manifold or a T66 type setup. Just something decent to run the streets and lay down respectable numbers at the track and dyno.

What is this crap?

its very time consuming. it will take a long time to get everything. you probly will come in near the same price of a kit but get exactly what you want.

It is highly dependant on the individual components that you select. My custom setup cost me way more than a kit but part of the reason is I went with a Hondata Stage2B and had to spend the extra $400 because I needed a OBD1 P28 ECU and the harness adapter. My total cost was $5000 for everything. BTW, I installed everything myself.

Well I see it two ways. Number one you can piece together a cheap *** turbo kit at your locak junkyard for probally $1000 http://www.homemadeturbo.com I think thats the url. Numer two is to piece together your own kit buy waiting on group buys and checking http://www.thepartstrader.com for good deals. With number two quality will be the same or better then a turbo kit such as maybe a drag. Piecing a kit together usually takes more time plus you usually need to have a rather well based knowledge on how the turbo works and what parts are needed. Good luck mang

My custom set-up ended up costing a lot more than a kit too and I was without my car for a while while I waited on parts. Custom is fun but like other people said you have to know what you are doing. If there had been a good kit available for preludes (like the drag gen 3 or revhard for integras) when I was shopping a couple months ago, I probably would have gone with that. But now, my custom set-up is installed and I think I learned a lot more than I would have by just buying a whole kit. You just have to figure out what is best for you.
