cheap turbo manifold idea
I have this 2 piece header that I think would work good. it's equal runner length and I believe it should work better than a log style manifold. all I need is a flange to mount the turbo to.and figure out where I should put the wastegate or if I should stick with an internally mounted one.

Re: cheap turbo manifold idea
Ive seen it done with the stock 2 piece so I don't see why you couldn't modify it to work but it sure seems like a lot of work and will probably end up costing more long run. You would need to go internal wastegate.
Cutting corners on a manifold almost always ends up costing more long run.

one of the main problems is going to be how low the turbo sits so the oil return is gonna either be kinked or have to hang pretty low, for $60 you can get a cast iron manifold that you can bolt a waste gate onto and you won't be made fun of when you pop your hood or go to sell your car down the road. also the metal in that junky header is going to crack very fast with the weight of a turbo on it. Im all about doing stuff cheap, but cheaping out on a $60 cast iron manifold for something like this is just stupid and will cost you more in the long run.

Oh i did forget to mention something (not to be a smart butt)
The words cheap and any type of significant added horsepower (even nitrous) do not work well together. If it is cheap it will more than likely have some issue not far down the track.

depends on your definition of cheap and significant. you can piece together a 800 dollar turbo kit and put it on a ls in a eg and run 11's with a good tune.

the problem you have is this... aftermarket headers are thin material... something around 16 gauge and they really won't support the weight of a turbo alone... they would crack and if you arent very proficient with a welder they will crack that much faster
you'd need to brace the turbo with a triangulated brace that supported the weight of the turbo from above

Its quite obvious thats his mockup... Idiot.
People have been doing this on hmt/rhmt since before alot of you even had a license and running 11/12s on diy stuff.
I wouldnt do it with some cheapass ebay header or any aftermarket header really. Use an oem 2 piece and go from there.

its the new hood rich top mount lol. don't get me wrong Im all about making **** work but this is pretty pointless. top mounts create alot more lag then a short runner manifold and with a stock exhaust manifold for the upper piece its most likely not going to flow as well as just a normal cast iron turbo mani.

And they are typically ran for the ability to run larger downpipes making more power more efficiently.

Re: cheap turbo manifold idea
Iv had first hand experience with going from a ram to a top mount so tell me theres no difference in spool time if you want but I know what the car was like before and after, and yes the top mount had a 4" down pipe which also helped out in heat soaking the radiator during the summer. you can easily run a big down pipe on a ram or mini ram if you know how to fab anything. top mount would be my absolute last pick for a street car unless it was a cast top mount that is.

I remember when THIS was made after helping Schister66 with his manifold issue on his GT3255B

thats exactly what I tell people when they want a top mount for their stock motor turbo ls lol.
Spool
1. Log
2. Mini Ram
3. Ramhorn
4. Topmount
Overall Power Potential

Re: cheap turbo manifold idea
Since I have had a license? Really, so they have been turbo charging Honda's since 1965? Interesting theory child, but I was saying that the header matches the hole in the block. Who said anything about whether or not it was a usable setup? Obviously, being broke has left you with an attitude. I am sorry about your life misfortunes, or should I say mis-brokeness.
"since before alot of you even had.."
