Chassis question FI car (CRX vs EG)
Hello guys.Im messing my mind with a possible chassis trade.Right now i have a 95 EG6
(VTI B16A2 EU market 2350 lbs) and i found a guy with a crx that wants an EG trade.We both keep our engines.
Im almost ready to boost my car, but still havent disided if ill keep the
piston/rods stock for 300whp or forge for 400whp.
GTX3076 .63 and Forged Performance topmount mani + tial F-46 wg along with 96 spec gsr cams are waiting in my office.
~~~~~~~~~~~Now to the question.The crx can be a good 300 lbs lighter than the EG.But rummors float around about the short wheelbase
of the crx making it dificult for standing start making it unable to hook the power to the ground.Many people say crx is good only for 60 roll or
for small horsepower projects.Whats your opinion/experience?How faster will (?)the crx be from the EG?
My car will be weekend driven with very little if any strip racing.Mostly street action.
Power 300 or 400 whp(depends on finances stock or forged pistons/rods)
Thanks for your time and sry about my weird english.
EG has more space but I didn't find the CRX chasis to be that hard to work with. It was easy compared to my old Talon.
I have an EF hatch and everyone hates on me for using "that old, super light car." It's like I cheated by using an EF. When I got into the Honda scene years ago, EF's were considered a viable option, now it seems that unless you have an EG or EK hatch, you aren't one of the "cool" kids. I rock my light chassis and say damn them all.
Shorter wheel base will erect launching if your planning on drag racing the car. I personally had a turbo crx and its super tight. Not a fan personally if I was going to have a turbo crx it would be with a stock motor small turbo kit and it would just be a fun driver not a 350-400 Hp street car/ drag car. That's just my opinion though. Ultimately it's your decision.
you have to be a bit more creative and dig a bit deeper to find out what parts work in the EF chassis. Things like turbo manifolds, intercoolers, suspension, radiators, ecu's etc... are all made to fit in the e.g/ek/dc chassis.
Mostly it is due to engine bay room and just the popularity of the chassis. the later chassis are just an easier build all around.
Plus's to the EF's are weight, uniqueness, style ....uh thats about it, lol.
My EF is a handful on the street with 400hp, but no problems at the track.
You get alot more love in a Crx. Everyone has a civic
But yes its pretty tight in the engine bay boosted. 250whp on a small turbo is A TON of fun though
Re: Chassis question FI car (CRX vs EG)
I run a full weight CRX (1100 Kgs) to 11.5 @ 122 mph, nothing removed, electric roof, windows more or less as it left the factory.
Making 356whp and about 300 ft/lbs so enough for reliable fun.
I drive it to and from the track, it's used on circuit track days too, 23" M&H slicks on a basic turbo set up, it's a lot of fun and I have no problems running 11's, it also does corners just as well on track days.
If I was to do it all over again it would be in an EK shell.
Re: Chassis question FI car (CRX vs EG)
if you get the crx man i would buy at least 3 rear supports because they like to rip right at the rear engine mount.
also do the king bearing front lca's and be done with it
