charge pipe broke...now wut? details inside
HI, this is my first time posting in forced induction...but i have been doing research since i am currently working on my own turbo myself. however, this post is for my friend..and i feel bad for him..so i'm helping him out.
he bought an edelbrock (sp?) sohc turbo kit for his 99 ex honda coupe not too long ago. i would say 2 weeks. well he drove over this hump and the charge pipe cracked at the flange. for some reason...correct me if i'm wrong...but i think edelbrock is one of the rare companies that i have seen in my experience to use flanges to connect their turbo charge pipe to the FMIC.
he called edelbrock (sp?) and there is nothing they can do. so wut is he to do now? its kinda hard to find a charge pipe w/ a flange on it.
he could cut the flange on the turbo and the charge pipe and connect it w/ rubber tube...but he said he didn't want to risk cutting flanges off a turbo he spent 3500 dollars on.
so...should he contact edelbrock more? or is there a place he can buy a charge pipe w/ a flange?
reweld an option? i'm not very familiar.
any help would be appreciated.

i'm not exactly sure....but the pipe is so thin and light looking.....i could probably compare the pipe to an aem cold or short air pipe. i didn't think they were weldable (is that a word?)

it's 2 weeks old and edelbrock won't stand by their product? should be replaced under warranty I would think, otherwise a welder can most likely fix it for cheap
you can weld to an AEM intake, it's aluminum

When you say charge pipe, do you mean the cast aluminum one on the bottom side of the turbo?
I broke one on my turbo kit, and was able to get another one. That's life with a lowered Honda.

you need to get that pipe tig welded, not anyone can weld it. bring it to a place that can weld aluminum very well.

sup marauder...i didn't know this thread was still going. ur absolutely right.... the cast aluminum one on the bottom side of the turbo broke. we called edelbrock again..and they finally were able to supply us w/ one for 40 dollars. i didnt think it would be so fragile though. he didnt even hit it hard. oh well..ur right...lowered cars....

Yeah, that pipe is a weak point, but I'd rather that brake than braking the turbo instead!
