Change my turbo?
Well, its a little late now but I wanted to get your opinions on a Hybrid 60-1 turbo for my car. As some of you know, I have a 2000 GSR w/ a fully built motor and a Hondata. I had the T3/T04E that came w/ the Rev Hard kit but I recently sold it in favor of a Garrett 60-1 w/ a stage three hot side. What do you guys think about this? Did I do good in changing my turbo? Any one using this setup than can give me their opinions?

Re: Change my turbo? (turbogsr)
The thing is, I was hearing that the 60-1 turbo after 15psi just pushes hot air. This got me worried. I know a lot of people that are making a load of power w/ a 60-1 but I don't know. Thats why I want your opinions. But this thread doesn't seem to be to popular. C'mon guys, help me out here.

Hmmmm...I thought the 60-1 was a big *** turbo? I suggest you find a compressor map for it, and do all the figuring you need to do. Look up a post by blueshadow if you don't know how.....although, with a car pushing 386whp I hope you know how to!

Re: Change my turbo? (HXMan)
i dont see why it would push hot air after 15 lbs....maybe smaller ones doo...like the greddy's....but still you should be able to go alot higher w/this turbo...i kno some people that have the 60-1's...so i'll find out for u.....and dont buick gn's run like a 60-1 or a 62-1...so ...try asking a grand national owner..i'll try and look for u....late

Re: Change my turbo? (turbogsr)
Hmm... here's the map for the 60-1:
Assuming over 15 psi boost, a rough estimate is that you're flowing a little over 20 lbs/min of air on a GSR powerplant. So yeah, basically you can boost up to about 1.2 bar, or about 16-17 psi, before it starts SURGING - not flowing hot air... it simply stops flowing. That's a great turbo for a large displacement 6 or 8 cylinder, but I honestly would NOT pick that turbo for a 1.8L 4-cyl. no matter who is making mad power with it. No matter what boost you're running, that thing is wayy outside it's max efficiency on this size engine.

Does it matter that its not a full blown T04? It has a stage 3 hotside. I don't know if that would matter.

Re: Change my turbo? (dbman96)
That's a really huge turbo with some major lag turbogsr, but it does make some good power. I've seen it put to good practical use. I prefer pushing the smaller T04E's to their extreme's rather than making a huge wheel loaf along spinning like a pinwheel in the wind. T04E .50 I have witnessed make 490+whp. .46 I have seen make 400whp. Both with Stage3/.63 turbines.

I am actually having thoughts about hybriding my EG, and going turbo again. And yes, I will be using the 60-1. We have a car, still under wraps, that is a fully built LS/VTEC-Turbo-NOS EJ, utilizing a 60-1...and it has made some DISGUSTING power...Wait til it debutes...it is SICK, and it's a street car.

Re: Change my turbo? (Stu)
Fully built from top to bottom. And price is a lot. But that doesn't pertain to this post. I want to hear about this 60-1 turbo and it not being efficient for my car. Why do a lot of the big boys use it then? And even bigger than that? And they make insane amounts of power.

Jorge to answer part of that question on the big hp numbers is due to speed pro or motec. Tuning is insane and the results are incredible. Does Shabaaz have a 60-1? I am sure it will work out man.
