catalytic converter fouled?
Anyone here foul their cat by running too rich for too long or burning oil?
If so, how fast can it happen and is there a good way to test for it?

Re: catalytic converter fouled? (GruvyTune)
My friend's cat bought the farm after running really rich with the JRSC for about a year. Symptoms included:
1) BOV like sounds around 4500 when shifting
2) General lack of power
3) Bad gas mileage
4) Got passed by Geo Metro. See #2.
When we took the cat off, we held it up to the sun and couldn't see anything! A piece of the honeycomb had busted loose and the thing looked totally plugged.

If you had a temp gun, you could take the inlet and outlet temps. Outlet should be ~100 dgr F higher.
If you had a scope or meter, you could look at the 2nd O2's output. While cruising around, it should stay up at about .7-.8V. On a decel condition, it should drive lean. Since the Catalytic Converter uses O2 to do its job, if you show lean when cruising, you've probably found your culprit.

that would be all easy except its an obd1 car and has only an inlet o2 sensor!
Its a carsound hi flow cat so i didn't know if perhaps it was less likely to plug up than the stocker.
