Cast manifold with WG off one runner
Hi
I just wanted some oppinions on the popular cast manifolds that have the Wastegate attached on one runner...
Will this be fine for my power goals? (240 to 250whp)?
Will this type of manifold create problems for me ?
I know that the best position for the wastegate is in the middle.. But the kit I am buying has the basic cast manifold on it..
Will i experience boost creep for sure just because the manifold has the wastegate placed on the one runner.
I will be running a T3 50 trim turbo running 14psi with a tial wastegate with a 0.9 bar spring in the wastegate

Re: Cast manifold with WG off one runner
Cast manifolds are weaker than other types but theyre not completely brittle, imo for a goal of 250hp youll be fine. As far as boost creep goes, get a good wastegate and i dont foresee you having issues or horrible creeping issues.
Id plan to upgrade to at least a log manifold in the future just so you dont have to worry as much as far as cracking the manifold.

I ran a cast mani w/ one runner wastegate with no problems. I have a top mount now though. (that cracked on me by the way)

A true "log" would be a downgrade from a cast. At least the cast manifolds have a partial collector to them. Also, Ive NEVER seen an ebay cast mani break, but i've seen alot of tubulars that have.

are you referring to cast ss manifold?

Re: Cast manifold with WG off one runner
take this for what it's worth.
I built a b18a with ross 8.8:1 pistons
eagle rods
stock sleeves with az race block guard
pocket ported b18a head and IM
Uberdata tuned (this was 7 years ago, dont laugh)
greddy type 24 fmic
garrett t3/60-1 .82 ar with the t04s cover
while I was building, I was keeping my eyes open on ebay for a used turbo manifold.
As the screen loaded I see this very shiny, pretty sparks racing turbo manifold look alike for less than half the cost!!!!
I was stoked. i bought that damn thing without blinking.
It got shipped and I idolized that thing until it went on.
I broke the engine in with that manifold and it was quick...
pulled the car onto the trailer to head to Battle of the imports in joliet il ready for some racing...
we get to our hotel, go to bed, the next morning went to wire up the gauges and the wastegate and flange are laying on the front crossmember.
that stupid thing broke while on the trailer from Iowa to IL.
needless to say it was an SSautocrome manifold. (before anyone knew anything about them)
luckily I had a revhard cast manifold with me also.... got the new manifold on. redid the down pipe and lower charge pipe and that car WOKE up...
it was faster spool and better flow.
Good cast manifolds are worth their weight in gold... tubular manifolds can be overkill for some builds..
and tubular LOG manifolds are just scary
