Default Car won't rev over 7000rpm

The car is a 92 Civic SI Hatchback, with built B18C1 engine turbo'd, using the AEM EMS. Car will rev to approximatley 7000 rpm and runs into a wall, it feels like hits a rev limiter. I looked at the rev limiter settings and there at 9000 rpm, nothing close to where it's stopping. I'm stuck and don't know where else to look.....Anyone have any ideas of what or where i change a different setting that could control anything that could contribute to this. If need I can send someone the map and a few logs. The car is using a MSD Digital 6 and HVC external coil for extra spark, the MSD's rev limit is set to 8700 still no where close to wall I keep hitting, no matter what gear/load. A/F's are in the mid 11's, as per the FJO wideband.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Is the AEM EMS a piggy back ECU for your OEM ecu for the c1? If so maybe there is the problem? but I can't see your required ECU to have a rev limiter at 7grand. Perhaps there is a built in safety of 1500rpms or something?

No, the AEM EMS is a full standalone, far from a piggy back ecu.

Bluesi00,

Do you have a similiar set up as in ignition and the aem ems?? If so I found a post in the aem forum about needing to change the dwell setting and wiring the white wire of the msd box to the aem. I'm gonna probably try that and see if it will help.

Yes, stupid question. Oil level is fine, same with oil pressure. A/F's, EGT's, Timing, Fuel, Dwell setting's, are all the same when this happens no spikes or drops in any settings...from many logs all these have not changed when approx. 7000 rpms are reached the car hits a wall. Which feels just like a rev limit, which is impossible since the aem ems' is set at 9000 and the MSD Digital 6 is set at 8700 both which are far from 6800-7000.

Someone else have any other ideas I might be able to try? I'm stuck reving a honda to 7000

OK, I wont try and help next time. That exact problem would be occuring if you had a low oil level, and you hadnt mentioned it before, so I figured Id bring it up. Everything else would be normal as mentioned.

Sorry for using common sense, Ill remember next time that you are on top of everything.

Bump to see if anyone has any "smarter" questions.

On the map that I sent you and i'm using it is set at 32 degrees of timing. The wastegate spring is a 7~8lb spring. I started with 22 degrees of timing and slowly moved the timing up without any success of fixing the problem. Egt temps are not going over 510~520 C.

Thanks I appreciate it. The map is far from done and I know still needs alot of work, but I'm trying to conquer the reving problem first before I finish tuning the map.

I sent you a email back. It helped a little but still had same end results but got a little more rev out of it. I guess i'll just have to keep playing with it and see where it ends up.

I did it was at 16, but i'm going to retime it since it seems like it's a timing problem. Hopefully it is and I did something wrong.

make sure you set all the areas around the idle in the timing map at 16 degrees

then go to configure - ecu setup- ignition timing, then caliborate w/ the timing light

Don't I need to also make sure Idle Spark and AIT Spark are set to 0 or does it not matter? Just re-reading Ignition Set up on the AEM board manules it says to and I dont' think I did the first time.
