Car smokes when i let off the gas why??
i've got a turbo civic, when i let off the gas it smokes a little, it was noticed today by some friends after driving on the highway for about a half hour they were following behind me in a small town and they noticed it, after that the car sat for about 2 hours and when i left they said they didnt see any until we got on the highway they said everytime i got off the gas it smoked blue which is oil. what causes this? is it the turbo? rings? motor was built only has like 3k miles on it, and all the valve seals and guides were replaced also. someone help please!!(btw i did search and i couldnt come up with anything)

yes.
garret 57 trim .63 ar
as old as the build year and a half i suppose

i had new valve guides and seals installed when i built the motor, i do not have an oil restrictor on my supply line going to the turbo, the return is as straight of a shot as you can get it comes out and 45's straight into another 45 into the oil pan. if its the seals would it be the compressor or the exhaust housing? how can i tell if the seals are bad?

Re: (blinx9900)
i'm gonna do a comp test today but i seriously doubt its my ringlands, if it is then i must of got a faulty set of pistons. im also gonna check my intercooler piping and see if i see any oil residue. but i just pulled my plugs to change them last week and they didnt have any oil residue signs on them which makes me think if the turbo seals are going it would have to be on the exhaust housing. would the seals going cause the car not to run 100% or would it not effect it?

my buddys 50 trim DSM does the same thing. its most likely the turbo. his has been doing it for a while and the turbo is fine, it got singnificantly better after a restrictor was installed. if the smoke doesnt bother you then just leave it alone and/or add a restrictor.

check out atpturbo.com they have restrictors that you drill out the hole yourself that way you can pick the size you want.

Its the turbo. Try running a thicker/different brand of oil (do not use valvoline). If still persists, install restricter. If these don't cure the problem, time to rebuild turbo. I always run 20/50 semisynthetic and it cures the problem.

Re: (drpoomanchu)
thanks for all the help guys, i put the drain as high as i could in the pan, and it is literally a 45* off of the turbo a piece that is a quarter inch long in between and then another 45* into the oil pan, its as direct of a shot as it possibly can be, i think it might be that i dont have a restrictor, i've got to check into getting one for it, i'm gonna try fast-turbo.com i suppose since i have no idea what size i need

My #4 cyl cracked a ringland on a stock gsr block. It would smoke on decel and also had some smoke coming out of the breather.
So it could be something other then valve seals because that is what everyone told me was my problem. A compression test will clear this one up for you. I had a bad cyl then did a leakdown and air was coming out the dip stick

how off were your compression numbers? i had one cylinder that was off maybe 10 on the compression test from the rest, it has stock sleeves but forged pistons.
