Default can't find IAT sensor location for 2k SI?? (tried search)

I have the sensor connected but it's just hanging in the engine bay... looking at the wires it seems that it would mount somewhere in the stock air intake piping. of course I have the intercooler piping so that's out.

it's the only thing I need to figure out before I go see gruvytune to finally get this thing tuned.

update: I posted pics at the top of the thread for people who don't feel like scrolling...

what manifold do you have? Most aftermarket ones allow for it to be put on the mani. If not, drill a hole in the charge pipe and use a rubber grommet and plug it in.

On Si, the IAT is in the intake piping. You may need to drill your IC charge pipe and mount it there using a JB weld to secure them

damn, sometimes I hate being right... I have a stock intake mani, so charge pipe it is. thanks!

I can't weld, and the sensor or connector doesnt look like it has metal to weld to. would a rubber grommet and a press fit hold against the air pressure?
if not, any other ideas or places to mount my IAT sensor?

mines holding at 10 psi, not a problem. Just don't make the hole too big.

rubber grommet is a good solutions to secure the IAT, again just do that and add a little dab of jb weld, you'll be fine

You could make a small hole in the intake piping (by the turbo) and stick it in there OR what Im going to do (once I figure out the wiring) is put a new sensor in my intake manifold. Since I have a JG theres a spot for a GSR/ITR temp sensor. I wonder if the wiring is the same?

Bump for wiring?

ahh I didn't realize JB weld was a type of glue!! now it makes sence... great, thanks everyone for the info!

as for the GSR temp wiring... seeing that I have a GSR ECU, and I'm using the stock SI sensor, that would lead me to believe the Si and GSR sensor wiring would be the same... I'll let the HT guys who know thier **** confirm

why change the IAT sensor? how can the GSR one be any better?

If you pull the Si intake manifold off, it is not difficult to drill and tap the blank IAT boss for a intake runner mounted IAT sensor.
Same as this LS IAT sensor mounting location (the black sensor), I just moddified my Si manifold to work like this. A flat file, three sizes of drill bits, and a tap is all it took. It will require the bolted style IAT sensor as well as the mating harness plug. I'm pretty sure a Dseries IAT could be used.

yes, they both have 2 wires, but different colors (I dont know if that matters).

they physically look different and require a different ECU harness plug (Si vs GSR) so that's why I was confused. When I come home from work I can take a picture to show you what I mean.

well i had a similar problem
but i had to lengthen the wires to reach the iat sensor....
b16a with a skunk2 manifold .. i can't clear the cel

Drill, tap, and get an non-intake pipe/box mounted IAT... D series are the exact same so long as they are runner/plenum mounted and you will need the round 2 pin connector (same as ECT, FANC, VTM, IAC, etc. so just seal it off someone elses harness if you don't have extras )

here's what I'm doing... I bought the surface mount sensor (GSR) and I was able to have the machine shop at my work make an adaptor plate I designed so I can mount the flat mount sensor to the round charge pipe.

The part is a solid block of steel thats milled... I used steel incase I decided to weld to the pipe, but for now just drill/tap...

what do you guys think... hack?

Looks good, did you solder leads directly onto your IAT?

Yes I did solder the wires right to the sensor pins. then I filled the connector hole up with very hi temp hot glue... I guess I can put quick disconnects on the wire later if I have to...

That's cool, I'm sure it'll work just fine... I probably personally wouldn't do it like that only because I"m really picky about wiring and like it to look all the same but none the less you did an awesome job... However, I actually would solder directly to it just as you did over using quick connectors (really don't like tho things)... Peace

All that machining for to adapt a IAT sensor. Damn you out done yourself.

Is it ok if you just tie it up somewhere in your engine bay?

Mine was in the engine bay, my tuner can't properly tune the car until I mounted the IAT... but I guess it's ok if your car is not tuned.

well I'm finished! I think it will work ok... tonight I'm headed to NY, getting tuned finally!

Here's some pics of the GSR IAT sensor mounted to the charge pipe with the custom steel adaptor block:

I think I'm all set... wish me luck!
