Default can it work? stock grand national turbo?

i have been given a good stock grand national turbo and am intrested to know if any one has tried this set up or knows if it will work.

curent setup on 88si crx

built d16a6 blockcurrently being built)
eagle rods h-beam
low comp. pistons (undecided)

built y8 head:
skunk stage 2 cam
springs valves retainers
mild port work

transmision:
spec stage 3 clutch
otherwise stock 88crx si trans

the idea is new and i do have a few friends who can weld and one that will be tuning the car at the local preformance shop.
for fitment issues i will start by fliping the fans to the front of the radiator but other than that i'm just starting to plan any insight and coments are welcome

Default Re: can it work? stock grand national turbo? (powelljw)

I'm actually suprised that more people on here arn't running them. The GN 3-bolt housing is like a bastard step child mix of a T3 and a T4 housing with a wierd inlet flange (3-bolts instead of 3). They're bigger than a T3, but a bit smaller than a T4 so they have a nice mix of flow. Stock turbos are good to about 350-375 horsepower, and cheap upgrades are easily found on Buick boards. TE44 turbos are basically an SC44 with a larger exhaust housing and good for nearly 600 horsepower. You can pick these up with under 5K miles for about 400 bucks or brand new for around 450-500 bucks on the interweb. I say go for it.
