Can I turbo my gsr w/ civic type r cams and type r tranny at 95k?
I've searched but didn't get any good answers.
I'm thinking about going turbo on my gsr w/ 95k. I have a couple of questions.
Currently have ctr cams w/ skunk2 sprockets and a type r tranny w/ lsd. Will it be ok to run ctr cams and this tranny w/ turbo.
Is is safe to run turbo w/ 95k on the motor? How long will my motor last? I'm thinking about boosting 5-7 pounds.
Orginally I was thinking about doing a full rebuild for na when I reached 125k. But from a lot of persuading from egturbo, I want to go turbo. So I was thinking I can go turbo until 125k, then go to the full na rebuild. Will I even make to 125k w/ turbo? Thanks!!

ctr cams w/ skunk2 sprockets and a type r tranny w/ lsd. >>>If possible you should put your stock GSR cams back in. With the Type R Tranny you may have traction issues
Is is safe to run turbo w/ 95k on the motor? How long will my motor last? I'm thinking about boosting 5-7 pounds. Well, 95k is fine. Check your compression and do a leak down test to check the integrity of your engine. >>>A high reving, high compression NA engine is as bad as a boosted motor...well for that fact that it is not stock....but with a boosted motor I recommend that you look into a good engine management system. AEM, Hondata, PFC, etc.

I'm kinda on a budget. I don't have my stock cams anymore. I would have to pay someone to take my ctr cams and put the stocks cams in. Would i be ok, or should i just save and put the stock cams in. Plus, do i keep the sprockets w/ my stock cams, or go stock cam gears too.

I also do not recommend keeping your CTR cams. If you think you will only be turbo'd for 30k miles, think again. Once you experience boost, you'll never want to go back.
But as mentioned above, you definetly want to get a good fuel management system with some proper tuning. Nobody can tell you how long your motor will last. It all depends on how much money you throw into it to make it ready for boost. You could just slap on the turbo, but, stock parts will only last so long before needing replacing.

boosted at 100k here. no point of boosting with that short tranny, the type r, get a gsr tranny for boost. thats what most ppl say because teh gears are to short

boost it. I turboed my 93 integ ls. with 150k on it. everyone said it would blow up before i made it down the block. but it didn't. I beat the living **** out of it day in and day out. the car lasted for one year before i blew the turbo and the head gasket. i was at 6-9 psi
since then ls v-tec fully built running 14-20 lbs on the street 20-25lbs at track. and you gussed it i still beat the **** out of it.

The idea is the same N/A or turbo. LS transmission is geared taller which means less torque at the wheels. So you theoretically could get more traction, and you are going faster at the top of each gear. This is only helpful if you can eliminate a shift (aka, a shift to 5th gear), and that should only matter if you are trapping at 120+ mph.
Else the only turbo related reason to use the LS transmission is if your turbo is sized wrong or something, and using the LS transmission puts the revs in a place where the turbo is happier (I cannot even think of a specific situation where this would be the case, though).
My opinion: using the LS transmission when turbo is all hype. All it does is get you a little bit of traction really.</TD></TR></TABLE>
As far as acceleration goes, which makes more sense?
Longer Gears
Being in a gear for a longer period of time, thus taking more time to accelerate to a given speed?
OR
Shoter Gears
Being in a gear for less time, thus taking less time to accelerate to a given speed?
When racing which would you prefer?
