Soak them is some carb cleaner over night...then just rubb them with a cloth.

repeat if neccesary.

As recommended it is best to dissolve the crud away chemically.

The wire wheel if used on the ring area will open up the ring grooves a bit near the edge of the pistion which is sure not optimal.

Remember a little scotch brite work on the piston crowns, no sharp edges and a slight roughness for boundary layer turbulence and a quick fine carbon layer buildup after rebuild.

Regards,
BigMoose

PS: Great look at quench area in action on the piston second from left.

(I'm not an *** hole)

The piston ring's are on there. You can get the best pic of the ring's on the second picture.

Imagine the piston as a perfect cylinder. Now look at the "ring's" that are outside the cylinder. Those are the ring's.

from the top of the piston...1st compression ring...2nd compression ring...1st oil ring...2nd oil ring.

THERE ARE 4 RINGS??

coz i see there is a part which is a little "dirty", and i am pretty sure that's the ring..
but i didn't know there are 4 ?!

Well really it's only consider'd 3 ring's...

2 compression
1 oil

but the oil ring has a top and a bottom ring.
so technically there are 4.

um, so you don't get blow-by, and burn all your oil, and otherwise have a crappy running(if at all) engine...

With out the ring's a 900HP drag engine would now suddenly have about 5HP.

get some carb choke cleaner and spray it on there
wipe it off

use carb cleaner on the tops, then tape the rings off and us a BRASS wire wheel the get the last of the carbon of the piston TOPS.

there is almost nothing on the side near the rings only on top. so i was only going to put the wheel on it.
