I have a 99 Prelude SH with 42K that I have been slowly building for close to 13 years now. I have a stage 2 turbo kit, Hondata ECU, custom 3' exhaust, and the list goes on and on giving me currently 247whp and 212 Torque.

I have yet to do any internal mods to the motor and was thinking of camshafts, springs, retainers, and another tuning this winter to get things rolling. Of course the 10-20 hp that's boasted with most aftermarket cams sounds good but I'm equally interested in getting the power band adjusted to be able realize that power lower in the RPM band. Is this possible? Does anyone have a suggestion? Skunk2's prices are pretty absorbent! $600 plus for cams? After springs and retainers your in the $900.00 range. Possible different brand or direction?

Save your money.

I have made 680+ whp on an h22 with a stock head using an aftermarket intake manifold, stock cams & aftermarket valvesprings & retainers (for higher rpms).

If you have e85 in your area, simply spend the money on upgrading your fuel system and have the car tuned on e85 on more boost.

What is involved in a Stage 2 kit? If its using a turbo under GT35R size, as Mtber stated, save your money on camshafts. You can still find H22 cams for under $600. But cams are for this that are serious for over 600whp anyway.

Take that same money and sleeve the block before investing in camshafts

As Shodan says and me being a H turbo nut... Stock H22 cams are good efficient wise to 600-700 hp. Yes some guys have even had stock cams upwards of 750 hp like my buddy. But anything over 700hp would invest in Skunk2 pro1 NA cams and a good CNC PnP. Anything less in power, Ferrea 6k ss valves, guides, seats, keepers, and SuperTech Valve Springs and Retainers, 3 angle valve job and your done.

Whats your power goals?

What turbo manifold are you running? I am guessing a log style? Logs are not efficient to get much power out of 8 psi + They are pretty restrictive.

68mm Garrett T3/T4 turbo - I guess it seems like I have been building this thing for so long and other then the initial turbo install I have not made any significant jumps in power. I'd like to push it up into the 3-350whp area this winter. You guys have been a big help!

H motors have FRM Fiber Reinforced Metal Cylinders. You can't just throw in a forged piston in it. You have to sleeve the motor darton, benson etc. Then you can run any 9-1 compression forged piston you want. Eagle rods. They are cheap 3 bills and can handle 800 hp.

Doing this the right way will make it strong but will also last a lot longer. Then once you do the head work mentioned at least SS valves and SuperTech Valve Springs/Retainers. Your engine is good for 30 psi...

Cams cost. New shelf cams are costing 600+.. Custom cams depending on who you go with are around 800+.

I tend to disagree, and not because i sell cams neither.

I've seen alot of motors benifit from tuning, whether its stock or not, power can be made, and better useable power is unlocked..

It goes hand and hand..really. If you think about a set of "properly" profiled camshafts...it'll make more power, are stock camshafts a good starting point?
Of course..but will a better camshaft allow for more power? oh ya..

If you're on a budget, dont spend money on camshafts you "think" will work.

I agree with All MOTOR, with a proper set of camshafts and investing on the time to properly degree them in, will allow for an increase in horse power at your current PSI and as well gain a much more usable torque curve.

Here is just an example of one of the guys I helped out with an H22 setup, showing very usable torque and horsepower.

H22 turbo, Bisimoto Level 2.4 turbo specific camshafts and CNC head porting, GT3076R, ID1000's, 18psi on pump gas.
