Default Calling all with GSR heads (JDM or USDM)

So I have a GSR head at the shop getting a port job, when the guy calls me and tells me there's some casting flaw or hole in one of the exhaust ports

specifically cylinder number 4 (farthest left from the timing belt) port has some type of either casting flaw or something, that we thought was specific to that head.

we checked another JDM GSR (head in question was USDM) and the JDM head has the same exact "flaw" in ONLY the #4 runner.

Anyone know wtf that is, and why its there?

here's some pics

First, here is Cylinder 3.

Now, if you look, its at the bottom left corner of the port, next to the outermost valve, its hard to get a good pic but i put circles and arrows to help make it obvious.

I have no idea why its there. Its in the casting, there's no plug or inlet/outlet for oil or coolant (why would there be?) ... I was going to have it filled in and continue the port job, just wanted to check up to see what the deal was with this mysterious "flaw".

for the record, we checked a b16 head, and it doesnt have it..
