yes. for example....Greddy kits are void of it's CARB legality with an addition of an intercooler and a BOV

what the hell would an intercooler effect emissions at all? and even a BOV only vents intake air? a wastegate should be what they are after...

you can smog a greddy kit iwth intercooler and BOV.. aslong as the BOV is recirculated back in the intake... and about the intercooler.. that can pass.. since newer cars come with front mount intercoolers now..good thing for the evo coming out.

won't pass visual...especially in california...and if you don't live in california...thank god that you don't and pray you'll never come here if you want to have a serious car legally.....cops pull you over for shiny exhausts and smog testers hesitate when they see bolts ons, even with carb exempt numbers....hey give it a try...but for the peeps who've smoged in cali should understand where i'm coming from.....and the technical reasons should be obvious. air is vented out of the bov or compressed, cooled, and passed through the core exposing it to the atmosphere....whatever the case it sucks...good luck passing

well hey if the JG turbo kit passes emissions (not sure if they made it or not yet) then you get an FMIC and still can pass smog.

Cali sucks.

I just recently took apart my greddy kit...putting it back on in a month after my next autox event. Time consuming, but the time it takes to take apart and reassemble costs less of my time than it does to pass it illegally =/, the more i do it, the faster it takes i guess haha.

damn, that sucks for you guys! over here in reno, cops just don't give a **** unless you are at the races. I drive a primer black hatchback w/ lexan windows and a greddy exhaust. All my friends and i drive around all the time w/ open headers/ downpipes. Smogs are easy to work around if you have a friend in the business, and when you get pulled over the cops don't know what to look for at all. If they see a gauge or tach they automatically assume it's on "NOS". They do the shine around w/ their flashlights and then don't know what to do so they let you go. It's really laid back here, kinda nice. By the way, have you seen the show RENO 911, they really are that dumb most of the time.!

i dont know for sure, but I think that if a cop has any reason to believe that you have tampered with a vehicle's emission in anyway, they can pull you over to check. I.E. Modified exhaust is the biggest "pull me over" sign.

I usually half gas it at 0 vac/boost so you cant hear the turbo spool, and if im boosting, i let go of the gas slowly so the bov doesnt swooshh if a cop is nearby. I dont have exhaust, so if the cop's window is closed, i drive like a normal civilian.
