Cali people .... CARB Question from a Non-Cali'N
Just wondering why you dont register your cars in lets say Nevada or Arizona so you guys/gals can't get busted for CARB violations you can be like, well Im fron NV or AZ (and maybe cheaper insurance too). Maybe I don't "get it" but is this a way around it? I know in Long Island, NY (NYC) they do emissions and safety inspection (35.00 pass or fail ) but upstate NY by Canada its 15.00 and its just a safety inspection.
Does this make sense or am I still hung over from last night?

Dont you have to live in a state before being able to register your vehicle there though?
Altough I will be living in CA (military), I plan on registering my car in FL (my home of record) which to my knowledge has just the sniffer test.

you can register the car in another state but you have to have to live there or know someone who does live there and say you live with them or something of that nature. you can also get something like a PO Box and register it there. however, i have heard of people who have gotten busted for such a thing. most of us tend to drive to work, to school, etc. and take the same general route. 1 thing cops will notice most is an out of state license plate... and to top it off, they tend to pull over out of state cars for some reason. (suspicion of theft i guess?!?!) Anyways, this cop noticed the guy driving around cali for a long period of time and somehow busted him on it. So, the only real way to escape smog laws is to get out of cali... but who knows when smog laws will become stricter for other states!

what about someone like me? if I'm in the military stationed in CA, and my car is registered in FL, do you think the cops would hassle me then?
