CABLE SHIFTING B series transmission??
Well, Im not getting much luck w/my GFs setup, so Im on a different hunt. We want to keep this setup, except it uses linkages for shifting. Thats too much of a hassle for me to convert, SO, does anyone know of a cable shifting B sereis transmission? Also, if there indeed is one, do they share ANY of the same parts?
TIA

Re: CABLE SHIFTING B series transmission?? (earl)
shift linkage is still rod acuated, the clutch is what is cable operated... I think he means cable shift like prelude h series, and no there are no cable shifted b series trannies

That was like a trick question on a college exam... I was thinking of the same exact "answer" as Earl was, until I really thought about it.. haha

Re: CABLE SHIFTING B series transmission?? (HybridKOOP)
lol, yes where the linkages are CABLES. Bump..I was talking to a canook, and he said hed had one in his shop for a few years. They got it on a b20 from japan(fwd, not awd), and were like WTF? BUt ya, I havent heard from him in awhile, So I dont know what the deal was. I wonder what the USDM CRV 5 spd FWD uses???

What about the b20a's or whatever the early nineties ludes had. Dont know anything about those engines but maybe the trannys could be cable shift like newer ludes.

Tinker, look into the shifting mechanism of a 'Spec Racer Ford' in SCCA... i used to work on a race team, and they had a similar issue. The ford/renault tranny they used has a very similar shifting mechanism as the Honda.... it used rods, and it was in the back of the tranny, and they had to mount the motor in the back of the car just like you are trying to do, and work around the very same issue here. Its very hard to describe... i could probably draw it for you, but basically they use an 'extension' that is mounted to the shifter input, and it hangs down, and the shift rod then goes under the motor, and conects to it. When you push back on the rod, it still pushes back on the shift input, and still allows side-to-side motions and for-aft motions, and it should work fairly well. If you need any other help with it, let me know, but you should be able to get technical schematics of the Spec Racer Ford chassis/engine from the SCCA that'll basically show you how they are doing it
Hope that helps!

Re: CABLE SHIFTING B series transmission?? (ComposiMo)
ya, i could probably figure it out, but for the effort, itd pry be easier to swap in an h series engine, and more than likely get more power out of it anyway.
On the B20A issue, does anyone know if that shares the same bolt pattern??? Because I know for a fact thats cable, and I know that there are 10-20 in my local yard....
I just havent even looked into it...

no, my gfs rwd monster. I decided to run the single engine in the rear, itll be more fun in the end, and daily driveable(where you gonna store enough fuel to go anywhere w/two engines?)

I was looking at doing something similar - cuz I'm building a twin motor hatch. I decided to go with H-series because of the cable shifters....but if you're still thinking B-series, I'll give you a hint.....
Lotus Elise has a rear motor, and there is a kit out there to put the B18C5 into it!
i'll see if I can dig up some info for you......

Here it is.....
You'll need to build a little mechanism something like this:
Let me know if you have any question about it - I put a lot of thought into doing this, but decided to go with H22A's just cuz of the shifting and saving me a lot of headaches. I also have some pretty good ideas on how to place the motor in the car and tie it into the suspension if you're interested....

Re: CABLE SHIFTING B series transmission?? (Scott - 93HB Si)
3rd Gen Preludes, 88-91, had B series engines, closed deck, B20 and B21...... they used CABLE SHIFTER transmissions, not sure if they would bolt up to a "conventional" b-series though

They might - i have one of those drivetrains at my friend's house...I should grab the tranny and see if it bolts to a new B block....
