buying a used turbo *advice*comments*
buying a turbo off of my cousin for $500 to put on my 96 gsr it comes with greddy turbo ( i think is an 18g turbo) greddy downpipe, greddy manifold, greddy type s BOV, fmu, and we werent sure what type of intercooler it is but i believe its also a greddy, i was planning on selling the car but i figured for the price i'd throw on the turbo and have some fun with it for awhile. i know i still need some other things like the intercooler pipings, and i was going to pick up some injectors and boost gauge. i have a JDM P72 ecu with ubderdata and skunk2 manifold already in my car and stage 1 exedy clutch and 2.5" exhaust, and i have an AEM A/F UEGO. Just wanted to see what else i will need to make this cheap project work. I dont plan on boosting much maybe 5-7 psi. once i get everything on i was going to get it tuned also to be on the safe side. any suggestions comments?

you only need to bump it, you dont have to make a new post everytime. but yea, like i said on your other post, check to make sure theres no real damage to the turbo like shaft play or oil leaks and hug that AEM wideband haha

well i would recommend aluminum, if you got the extra cash. a little difficult to find a tig welder that will weld the bov flange on the aluminum piping. the piping doesnt necessarily have to be too big even tho some people think it should be. just as wide as the outlet of the turbo. PM project dc2 of spoolin performance, he sells great intercooler piping kits.

Hi I have a homemadeturbo type question.Would it be bad to use exhuast piping for charge pipes?or would they get to hot and kill the intake temp?

what makes the piping "exhaust piping"? did you literally take your downpipe and fabricate it to be charge piping or because its steel? you can actually find a lot of people using steel piping instead of aluminum piping for there charge piping. the material of the piping or what it use to be used for shouldnt have an effect on the intake temp. did that answer your question?

Yeah thanks .Ive never done a turbo setup before but will be doing one soon.I was just thinking that steel would hold more heat then aluminium.I know a guy that has an exhaust pipe bender. So I'll just get some 2.5 inch pipe and make my own charge piping from steel.and then just weld it.

for 5-7 psi, you'll definately need at least 310cc injectors, your stock injectors will not supply enough fuel which will cause you to lean out a bit. i know your stock injectors will work at first but will not be recommended, i kno someone that was running stock injectors at 8psi and blew his motor on the freeway from detonation.

ive seen stock blocks take up around 10-12 psi with a good tune but i wouldnt recommend that much. do a compression test and leak down test to see the condition of your motor. if it has good compression then you can up the boost from 7. how many miles are on your motor?
oh yea get crome, uberdata has too many bugs. or get crome pro for $150, the ultimate. http://www.tunewithcrome.com

limit on boosting too much on a high mileage vehicle. or get new rings and bearings, then you can safely boost higher. i'm lucky i have an integ i garage and bought brand new in 2000 and have half the miles u do
