Built motor scary sound!
finally got the swap done...started it up...and this crazy noise scares the **** out of us. Its not the block i have about 80 psi of oil preassure. We are pretty sure its the head.
sounds like a fing disiel for sure...it def sounds like the valve train hitting the valve cover, but i checked and its not.
I pull the head 3 months ago while short block was getting built and it didnt sound liek that before.
Head:900 miles
y8
crane turbo cam
crane springs/retainers
crane gear
oem valves with 3 angle valve job
block:fresh rebuild
9.1 cp pistons
eagle rods
aebs sleeved
crank balanced/micro polished
so does anyone with a crane cam sound liek this?
im scared shitless i havent started it for more then 2 mins trying to see where the sound was.
when i crank it without the ecu the sound isnt there so its not hitting anything.

is that what it sounds like?
The builder wanted me to bore to the next size on teh build but i already had these pistons. He told me he would just lightly deglaze? them so i wouldnt have to buy new pistons.
i havent kept it running long enough to reach operating temps. So you think i should at least try that? wait till its warmed up? see if the sound goes away?

Putting a cam in an SOHC makes it very noisey. Sounds like a deisel with a loud tap right? If so, it's normal.

the builder thought it would be safer if i went to one size up...i told him i couldnt afford it so please used the OG CP pistons. he said he can do it(deglaze)i am still at stock bore.
so piston slap it is???
cause im am going to sit there tomorrow and bear the noise and hopefully when its warmed up itll go away...

I dont understand what you or he means by deglazing carefully...

sorry drunk...but builder said he would deglaze instead of hone so he wouldn't take much material off since i didnt want to go up another size since i wanted to use the stock bore piston.

The valve lash was set when the cam was installed. This noise wasnt there 3 months ago when i pulled the head off the old running motor. Which baffles me since i havent touched the head teh whole time it was off.

i am throwing a TPS and MAP code so i switched the two plugs around and the car wont start.
this video is with me throwing code 5 and 7
anyway i think its more valve noise now more then anything. Listen to the other sound there sounds like there is knocking? motor is brand new so rod knockshouldnt set in so quick.

Re: (The Lobster)
Doesnt sound like rod knock. I would re-check the valve lash. What is your car idling at? Sounds kinda high. Btw, this is what my car sounded like when the valve lash was off.
