built h22 motor, making noise at 2000 rpm ? need some opinions please.
I have a fully built h22 motor and I've only put like 500 miles on the motor. My question is when you rev the engine between 1900 or 2000 rpm it makes a clicking noise and once you past 2000 rpm it goes away and when it's on idle it sounds fine, the car runs fine and it doesn't burn oil or smoke comes out of the tail pipe. I don't know if it's the bearings and also when we put the balance shafts, they had a little play in them and I don't know the motor is making the balance shafts to vibrate since i have solid motor mounts and the car vibrates a lot.
If anybody knows what could it be, I would really apriciate it.

Shoulda ditched the balance shafts altogther man. Pull the balance shaft belt and run with them disabled.

Does it do it under load, or free revving? New hydraulic tensioner on the motor or manual tensioner conversion? New lost motion assemblies or no?
You should be able to listen around...put your ear to a long screwdriver and listen around, rev it from the throttle body...etc.

it does it under free reeving and it has manual tensioner conversion. Everything on the engine is new. The weird thing is that it only makes the noise at that certain rpm, at idle is fine and above 2000rpm it sounds normal.

Timing belt slap maybe? If it does it in free rev you should be able to at least narrow down the general location it's coming from. Rev it and use a mechanics steth. or a long screwdriver like I said.

I'm pretty sure the noise comes from the bottom end. And if it was the bearings shouldn't the noise be at all times not just a certain rpms

Well, pretty sure isn't sure....so .....check into it further.
Generally yes, if a rod bearing clearance is wide enough for you to hear it, then likely the end is near. You can pull the oil filter and get a cutter to cut the end off...check for shavings. Check your oil for shavings as well.

Re: (steveludeh22)
well, I've been driving it around from place to place and it drives fine it's just that noise that still there , it has brand new crower valves in it. I did the first oil change at like 500 miles and the seemed normal.
