Built D16Z6 turbo options

I got a D16Z6 that has crower spring and retainer, zex cam, skunk2 cam gear, performance x intake manifold, tuner toy rods, and vitara pistons.

I have 3 different turbos on my mind. Keep in mind this is my dads car and will some what bedaily driven. Looking for around 325-350 on pump gas and then maybe 400+ on pump and 100% meth. He wants to go with a top mount manifold.

Turbo options:
T3/TO4E 57 trim I have now
GT2876R
GT3076R

I was think that if we went with the 30R to go T3 twin scroll. I don't know if that will be a good idea or not. Just thought it would be good for 500whp if he every wants to sleeve and fully build it later on. He wants a usable power band.

Whats the bros and cons of each? Also post up your numbers. Thanks alot

Chris

tht 57 should be enough for him.

tony413 12-03-2008 07:29 PM

be realistic with your goals. a holset HX35 or HX40/35 with a 9cm^2 turbine housing would be nice for 300whp and higher (400 depending on YOUR set-up, personal experiences have yielded 500whp on a HX40/35 with a lot more left in it.)

From what I understand the comp. ratio with the vitaras in the Z6 is only 8.5

umm no unless you have FJT custom length rods the CR is 7:1

correct sir. also id personally get a 50 trim instead of a 57, better spool time and still capable to support 350hp. Also ditch that skunk2 cam and go with a zex 59300

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 09:29 AM

It does have the zex cam. If the comp is that low then why the hell does all the compression calc. show 8:5:1

because its WRONG!!! do the math by hand youself and you will see its wrong. also which comp calc are you using and does it account for rod length ?

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 10:08 AM

I used 2 different ones. And I put in the stock rod lenght. One said 8:50 and the other was 8:83. So I take it this motor is going to feel like a damn slug out of boost.

tony413 12-04-2008 10:44 AM

just add some timming and keep an eye on AFR's and EGT's

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 02:12 PM

What do you think of the 3067 twin scroll idea

tony413 12-04-2008 05:02 PM

what size A/R are you planning on personally i would rather use a BW S258 T3 .70a/r i think the .55a/r on a D-series would be cream

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 06:13 PM

I was going to use the 3076 .63 a/r. I want room to grow in case we ever sleeve a motor.

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 07:06 PM

just did the zeal calculator and it says 7:67:1

turbojdmhatch 12-04-2008 07:14 PM

i would go for the gt30...ball bearing....good for 500whp which i dont think you will exceed...and the 57 trim will feel quite laggy

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-04-2008 07:40 PM

With the comp that low anything is going to feel laggy. I'm just worried about the out of boost driving

take a look at the BW S258 with a T3 .70a/r or .55a/r
also you will need to add timming with 7:1CR inorder to give the car a little more grunt, it doesnt has to be a slug but it wont be like 10:1 either. if your so worried just buy a set of FJT custom length rod and bump your CR to 8.5:1 or mill the deck and head a bit you have options.

its fine. i drive a 87 toyota as a daily driver (22r) and when i jump into my crx it feels like a v6 in comparison. its a light car. youll manage.

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-05-2008 05:08 AM

If I was to put the FJT rods in it and a 2 later y8 head gasket it would bump me up to 8:8:1. But the rods are on back order now. Between the block and head its already been milled 0.015

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-05-2008 12:57 PM

After talking to my tuner it looks like I'm going with a S256 .55ar I have a S256 .63ar on my srt4 and I love it

tony413 12-05-2008 01:03 PM

good choice you WONT REGRET it, its a sweet turbo.

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-05-2008 01:12 PM

Thanks for all the input bro, Were going to run the motor with the 7:67:1 comp for now and then build another motor later on.

tony413 12-05-2008 01:13 PM

sounds good keep on with the updates and build

BoostedEgHatchFl 12-05-2008 01:30 PM

I just talked to go-autowerks and he told me I should run the .73 ar. Also everyone is telling me not to get a top mount.

tony413 12-05-2008 03:13 PM

top = pooh
