you can run lots of HP on stock head....more than you will be able to produce with pump gas. Honda made a good head.

not really worried about the head, mainly the stock valves, springs, etc.

THis is what most people do, the head will flow plenty enough for all the horsepower u can use on the street..

Even with perfect tuning, I would start to feel unsafe 12 psi or more. Im talking about a run of the mill T3/T4 hybrid.

On a different note: I broke a valve and retainer due to valve float at a HIGH RPMMMM!......that however has little to do with boost. I want to hear from others too.

you may be able to run a slight more boost on a worked head. Reason being is that most head companies deburr the combustion chambers in addition to porting. This eliminates hot spots in the combustion chamber, and thus, prevents detonation. Same theory as sanding the hotspots out of pistons, just on the roof of the combustion chamber, not the floor. It also allows you to run more aggressive timing on pump and race gas. Timing = power

Just keep a close watch on your EGT's to make sure you're not running too hot. With stock exhaust valves you'll have less leeway before burning them. Otherwise, stock head = no problem.

We've got turbogsr (here in Miami) who was running on his stock P72 head, making 11.90 passes on a full interior GS-R, w/ nearly 400whp to boot

does upgrading the head (valves, springs, retainers, etc..) only makes you rev higher?? are there other advantages to it?? can somebody explain the the advantages to upgrading it? thanks

I think 22 psi is pretty much the limit on a stock head. i didn't believe this until i ran into this problem first hand. with stock springs at high boost the valves actually have a hard time closing and what ends up happening is that its really difficult to hold consistant boost pressure. when i datalogged my dyno runs my boost would fluctate from 22-24 psi with the boost controller turned all the way up, and basically my the motor wouldn't make anymore power. going with stiffer springs and titanium retainers is definately worth the money if you intend on boosting high.

You know you are making power when you blow the intake valves off thier seats while lifting the head.
