Building a reliable daily driver/track setup for 250-300HP
so im currently rebuilding a d16z6 for my future plans of boosting and taking it to the track, i will be driving it daily.
i know and ive read that reliability is all in the TUNE! that i get but that will be done when the time comes im building up the block now so should i upgrade the parts now or should i just rebuild keeping it stock?
so my other question is would I make my set up better and more reliable if i got some eagle rods and vitara pistons? or at this power level would stock rods and pistons be just as reliable? would i just be wasting money if i did this?
any help from would be great!

Re: Building a reliable daily driver/track setup for 250-300HP (funkified)
I wouldn't even try to make that much power on a stock block if it were my daily.
Now, if it's not your only means of transport, then yeah, turn it up and see if you can make 250-300.
If it were me, and I was shooting for 250-300 in my daily, I would definately do some rods/pistons. At least do a simple vitara/eagle(or TT) setup. That's as cheap as it gets for the power you are looking to make.
There will be a million opinions on this, but that's mine.
You might make 250-300 on stock stuff, and it might last who knows how long. But I personally wouldn't be comfortable at that level on stock internals on my daily.

I have a d16y8 with vitaras and eagles. I have been running that for about 12000 miles daily driven with a ramhorn turbo jesse manifold and garrett t3 super60 turbo. I made 262whp and 220wtq @14lbs. It spools quickly and is an extremely fun car to drive. I would definately build the motor for 250-300hp.

do you have any other internal mods besides the rods and pistons?

i know you have a single cam already but i would say find yourself an ls motor, slap a basic turbo kit and call it a day!!!
i had a stock ls motor with 160000 on it boosted for 2 yrs and never any issues, drove it and beat it to hell every god damn day
btw with a 57 trim turbo on 7 psi it made 242 hp and 227 tq, on 13 psi it was almost 300 so there ya go and your not even pushing that thing with 7-10 psi of boost and it blows tires off the car

you can pick them up dirt cheap i just sold a complete swap for 300 bucks juck yards are you best freind though, we have unlimited ls motors in the junk yards here in baltimore
i would def recommend it easy to tune and it's already got the best compression stock for boost i think around 9:1
and your hp goals can be achieved on low boost not high boost like you would need for a single cam
