Default Build your own or Buy (Turbo Kits) - searched

Okay, so before you flame I have searched. The only things I have found is about building a kit because they want specific specs. For me I just want a little more power but dont want to waste a lot of money. What I want to know is it cheaper to build your own turbo kit or to buy your own, include the costs of having to make special piping too. BTW I have a d16..

Also, I have been thinking about going to nitrous. Would that be a wiser path for someone looking for only 40 - 50 more hp?

Picture because no one looks at a thread unless u gots one...

It will almost always be cheaper to make your own kit...

Unless you get some kind of super killer deal on a kit.

It depends on how much you want to be involved in the process. If you make your own kit you will learn a lot more and the more you learn the more happy you are that you didn't buy a kit!

You can make a complete kit that will perform well for less than the price of a very basic kit. (Greddy)

about how much will a basic kit cost to build?
Im not looking for high boost. Only enough for about 40 - 50 more hp.

I have a friend who is really into turbo DSMs, I understand that people often take parts of DSMs and use them on Honda's. Does anybody know which DSM turbos, intercoolers are the best to use?

off topic: I found an Ad on h-t for a guy selling turbo kit he put together from DSM parts, but he says that the seals on the turbo is blown. How much does it cost to replace seals on a turbo?

I believe most people use the DSM 450cc injectors.

The problem that I ran into in making my own kit was the fabrication of aftermarket parts.

Such as the intake manifold, downpipe and turbo setup lining up correctly with say a bought IC piping kit. I ended up selling my IC piping and just having it fabbed for me from a local shop.

Also the piping would not have fit since I bought a Skunk 2 intake mani....

I'm glad that I did not buy a kit, but be prepared to have your car out of commision for a bit of time...unless you have a lot of hookups on misc parts that you will need.

I'm building my own kit, not because it's cheaper [it's actually way more expensive this way for me], but because I can pick and choose what components I want and which ones I don't. You always come out better when you hand pick the pieces.

This is similar to alot of peoples attitudes when they first want a "few extra horses" but by the time you have everything in and running well, you will get hooked. Then you will want more power.

You might be different though [doubtfully]
