Build Custom Kit? Or Buy Kit
guys, ill admit, im a newbie to turbos. I need advice on what to go with on an SOHC D16Z6.
One... Buy a kit, pre-built
or
Two... Custom build the kit, with freinds who know what they are doing
good thing for me i have those friends, and cash on hand.. just a matter of what to do.

Re: Build Custom Kit? Or Buy Kit (Simple)
the greddy kit does not compare to the revhard at all. the greddy kit is nice for 250whp and driveabilty all day. the revhard will allow you boost more and see higher hp levels as you decide to build your motor. why be limited with a greddy kit??

no matter what you get what you pay for and when you go custom, you dont pay for extra crap that you wont even use.
i suggest you visit this forum and other sites and do some research and when youre ready put together your own custom kit. good luck

I say go for custom. When I started building my kit, I had no idea what I was doing, but I learned fast, and I should be boosted in 2 days (if UPS decideds to get off their asses and bring me my parts)

Re: Build Custom Kit? Or Buy Kit (InfamousRS)
When deciding to go with the custom turbo kit how does one know which turbo will mount to x manifold? It seems like they should be matched together to flow better. I have the greddy kit but I may want more later on. Thinking about doing the t3t4 thing but I will also need a manifold.
Too bad someone has not made a turbo spreadsheet showing all the Honda/Acura applications, like fitment, flow ratings, trim & stage levels, manifolds, spool time, etc.

How much WHP do you have right now, and how much do you want to have?

Re: Build Custom Kit? Or Buy Kit (BlueShadow)
I have the 99 si kit. I know it can be made to flow better I would like to convert it over to an ext. w/g. My friend had his turbo (TD05H-18G) rebuilt and the upgrading cost was more than buying a t3t4 outright. But that also means another manifold.
Total power output of the Greddy is more than I can handle now. Do you know of any compressor maps for the TD05H-18G?

for now you can check out these links:

http://cherrypicker.tripod.com/turbo...0dett/id1.html
not sure if you know how to read the code for identifying Mitsubishi (MHI) turbos. But just a quick rundown. The first few letters and numbers (TD04, TD05, TD06) is related to the turbine part of the turbo. The second numbers and letters is related to the size of the compressor (14B, 16G, 18G, 20G). There are several different number and letter combos that will tell you the trim size and what not. The following link will tell you what the various numbers and letters stand for.
They even break down how to read the Garrett series turbos (GT-25, T25, T78 etc)
