i need some advise with my turbo build
the engine has just been rebuilt and sounds very tappy from the top end!
ive got a fully built engine
darton sleeves
rods
cp pistons
port and polished head
1mm oversized valves 3 angled valve job
double valve springs ti retainers
brian crower stage 2 turbo cams
skunk2 pullys
tubular manifold ram horn style


ive had it warmed up to normal running temp
but just sounds noisey
ive set the valve lash to
int - 006
exh - 008

stock is 006 and 007

iam running 10- 40 mineral oil for running in

please help iam worried about this

set the valve lash to the crower cams...not the stock cam specs for lash. They may be different.

I set my lash to the specs of Brian Crowers, and it noisy I guess its just ment to be loose.

I would re check the lash and check the lma's.

did you do it with the engine dead cold?

also i made the mistake of turning the crank pulley the wrong way so i adjusted the valve lash for the wrong cyl at tdc once lol. talk about being a dumbass man when i started the engine it sounded like a toolbox full of tools being thrown of the empire state building.

ive got some brian crower stage 2s and they are loud as hell, sounds like my car has 1000cc injectors lol. i set my lash to crowers spec, i think .008 and .010. the motor runs fine i think its just the cam profile making them loud. no biggie they work fine

I use to run these cams, and the lash was 6, and 8. Thats what BC told me, and mine sounded normal, but my idle is kinda high with 1600cc's. Make sure your engine is cold and check your lash again.

is this an LS engine? If so the crower specs for turbo cams on a dead cold motor is .007 intake and .008 exhaust with piston at TDC. they are noisy cams as they require extra valve lash its just something you have to deal with. vtec or nonvtec there noisy

the specs i got from brian crower for the ls turbo cams are .008in and .010 for ex.

I've been through a few sets of Brian Crower stage 2 turbo cams, none were especially noisy. The only LS cam of their's I've seen was the NA stage 3, it wasn't terribly loud.

1000cc = stock idle streetcar stuff. Not sure how that makes your engine loud?

my experience is that larger injectors "click" or have a slight tapping sounds. my precision 880s are noticeably louder than stock injectors when you get up under the hood

did they change the specs on the cams? cause i ran these cams in my car a few years back and the spec sheet that came with the cams said .007 intake and .008 exhaust

well iam running a b16a jdm engine
iam running 650cc rc injectors

on the spec sheet i got with the cams in says set the lash to
int-6
exh-8

now i have tried 6 and 8 double checked when cold again
and ive also tried 6 and 7 just stock what honda says
and its still so noisey i rally dont think it should be this loud
it dont sound too bad on tick over its when you rev it up a little it makes a awful sound as tho something is going to jump out the head
any other ideas would be great thanks for all the replys

I think that's some acoustic resonance in the intake tract causing that, because it's really hit or miss whether or not a car does that. Meaning they all make that noise, but it's amplified on some cars? Anyway, I guess the sounds are similar but I don't associate the two sounds in my mind. Sorry if I'm a picky bitch, didn't mean anything by it.

it seems like u need to bring the car to someone that can trully diagnose the car.Check the compression, that will tell u if the lash is way too tight, but useless otheriwse.

piston slap can sometimes sound like valve train noise....especially if the clearance was done completely wrong the sounds wont go away even when the engine is fully warmed up. (i had a set of wiseco pistons installed way to loose and they would not shut up until about 15+min of driving)

ask you engine builder about piston to wall clearance specs.

also check the LMA's. sticking LMA's will cause horrible noise. especially on a larger cam profile. you are compressing those oil *** B16 LMA's much more than they were used to over the past 15 years or so....they could be fubar.

iam going to try and uprated the lmas to itr lmas
ive been reading about hem and its best to change them
also been on you tube and watched video on bad lma and the the same sounds as iam getting

non-VTEC beat me to it. its your lma's almost guaranteed. plus you have a jdm b16 head. what year?? either way they need to be replaced especially with the cams your running.

sticky lma's will sound exactly like loose valve lash.

i have an ls head,rc550's, stage 2 crower cams with springs, crower settings are 8 in 10 ex, they stopped ticking with a lash of 6 in 7 ex. Runs smooth as the stockers at 6/7. Too tight?
