I've ran a breather filter on my ~210-220whp turbo d16 (stock) for half a year, then hooked up a catch can off the stock breather tube on valve cover, no problem. However, going to swap over a build d-series and a breather filter is a joke for that. I'm blocking off the stock breather port and drilling and welding on two -10an fitting on valve cover for proper crankcase ventilation. Depends how much power you're making, but if you have a little extra $$, mine as well as get a proper catch can setup.
