Default BOV opinions (Performance + Sound) for low boost (6-7psi)

What BOV would you guys consider a good investment considering performance and sound for low boosted engines? I am going to be getting a Greddy kit, and it's going to be a daily driver running at 6-7psi. I am concerned w/ reliability, but also want something that sounds good. Most of the opinions I have heard are for/from people using higher boost (15psi), which would dramatically change the sound that mine will prduce. I heard the Greddy Type S sounds, looks, and performs well at low psi, but haven't heard it.

Thanks,

jB

Greddy Type S is REALLY LOUD. Like overly loud... it sounds like it is seriously trying to make as much noise as possible... but it sounds decent.

HKS Super Sequential is my favorite though

loud, you haven't hear the blitz yet... this one is loud... one of the loudest actually.. i have to drive real slow so it'll be quiet and sleeper type.. then a big whoosh... sounds like a splash of water... low tone... it does the job..

i kinda want to try the type-s, just something different....

HKS-SS.... nice deep pusssssshhhh at less than full boost and when your wailing on it.. a nice quick whistle...

not very annoying at low rpm levels / shifts....

nice sound overall...

greedy is too loud/annoying to me..

i run 10psi and i just sold my hsk ssq and installed a turboxs rfl-h this one is the bomb, at normal driving it makes no sound at all as the hole is so ig the air just slips out, but at high boost cover your ears! its a monster. sounds a greddy but alot deeper sound and no wistle, im very impresed and it looks great under the hood, and its a bit diffrent too.

Jake,

Is it adjustable like the S, and how noticable is it? I'm looking for something I can turn down for daily driving, and when I go cruisin on like a Saturday night or to the track, I can turn up just for face reactions .

What kind of $$$ is it, and how reliable is it?

jB

And who would I have to Blow Off to get a % point back?

i really want to hear what the sard or the arc bov sounds like. most bov's range from 100-300 depending on the brand and application.

i hate the high pitched whistle noise of the HKS SS... I like BLITZ DD. If its too loud, just remove the air horn and put the breather filter on. GReddy is loud?!?! My friend has one and its too quiet for my taste... but as far as function, HKS SS and BLITZ DD is prolly the best.

as for operation. well they close fast, open fast and hold boost and flow out going air. other than that there no to much more to it. I totally agree with others on the greddy, its just a shitty sound and the wistle ahhhhh. then there the hks.. thats ok but everyone has it and i hate the little flutter sound while on low boost or in town. as for the turboxe its supa silent untill you get on it. then its great.
heres a pic for the poeple who have not seen it yet

the RFL is "supa silent"??? damn... with a name RFL (Really Fockin Loud) thats the last thing you'd expect someone to describe it as.

If you don't ever plan boosting 8psi or more then the vortech is a cheap buy it works great and sounds like your signature PSSSSSSSSSS..... it actually helped me not overboost today when I Was calibrating my boost controller since the vortech is not a TRUE bov instead a bypass valve that opens like a wastegate at 8psi I was able to tune down my boost controller to 7psi w/o spiking cause when it tried to the vortech let it out and you could tell just by the sound :D

Yeah, the vortech is pretty good sounding. Just your regular "pshhhh!!" like you'd hear in GT3. No whistle, not deep nor high pitched, just a nice rush of air that sort of snaps.
If I had to do it over again, I'd probably get the HKS SS, though. Overall, that one's the coolest sounding to me. Also, it has a few different "personalities". At low boost or not full throttle shifts, it just sort of flutters or makes air moving noises. At higher boost or just WOT shifts when the turbo is fully spooled, it makes the nice whistle sound that surely turns heads. And the inherent design of this one is pretty cool. It's guaranteed not to leak because of the sequential pull type valve it has.

AHAH! I have a pierburg wastegate that I took from a old volvo. It is adjustable and is ******* loud at 6 psi only! (I think I'm gonna start recirculating to dampen the sound).
I know, it doesn't look very good but hey, that's à 35$ BOV!

Blaast: Is that a stock BOV you pulled? What model was it?

The DSM 1st gen BOV sounds great, and costs practically nothing.
