Default BOV open during idle? normal or what?

sup guys,
the other day i was reading on here about BOV's and compressor surge. I too was getting the "rattle snake" sound, and i have a turbo xs type h rfl,so i read where people were saying if you dont have any washers in,and it still "rattles",cut some coils off the spring. so i cut a couple coils off and took it out for a drive and it doesnt rattle anymore, but then i parked and poped the hood and found that the BOV plunger is open while im idling, but when you give it gas,it shuts. is this normal,or alright? will it leak,or will boost keep it shut while im in boost? i mean it does shut once you give it gas,but during idle its open.

well i think it should be open a little when idle because vacume is holding it open. when you get on the gas a little the vacume goes away thus keeping the valve shut. and when you press the clutch or let off the gas the vacume goes back up and the pressure presses out. if its working fine i wouldnt worry about it to much.

That is normal, you should actually feel it sucking it or hear it on some cars. That is actually how you adjust some BOVs, you lossen them untill you can feel them sucking in a bit, then keep them there.

ok cool, just wanted to see if i needed to add some washers,or leave it. thanks man

one quick small question. if i do have it to loose, and it leak, how will i tell? will boost still come in,but instead of holding slowly fall off? or will it not come in at all?

i dunno. but i have the greddy type rs and it has the screw on top to loosen or tighten the spring and what i did was loosten it until i feel air at idle. so i think the way you have it is going to work just fine
