bought used motor, and ive never seen sleaves like these?
friend bought a longblock from a guy that is supposedly sleaved, i checked and the bore is 81.5mm, the motor has everything else that the guy stated but they do not look like sleaves, more like a block guard... supposedly its an old bensen sleaved block, if need better pics i can understand but cell phone is all i have for now
well finally got it all torn down and this is what it looks like from the bottom
looks as if it is sleaved, but its a pressed in liner or something?? anyone have any clue of how much power these can handle?

Re: (booscivic)
if it has been sleeved then you should be able to look at it from the bottom up and see a sleeve inside the cylinder. Looks like stock with a BG from the pics though.

Re: (coptzer)
why would u do that... obviously it got the original alum liner around them... it dont look sleeved thou... unless its a cheap 20 buck dry sleeved or a xtremely custom darton sleeve

Well if the Bensons look anything like my Dartons then yea you can tell by looking through the water pump hole.

he wont see much.. if those are aftermarket sleeves they are dry sleeves. so he will see the alum that holds the stock sleeves trough the water pump hole. nothing else...

if they are aftermarket sleeves you will see "score marks" from where they press them in, minor scratching of the outside of the sleeve as it goes in.
really it looks like stock or a really old JG engine dynamics sleeve job

Re: (mrbsponge)
These arent Honda sleeves but the casting looks similiar. On a D series atleast, if you looked through the water pump hole you would see the grooves going around the sleeves.

it could be a closed deck block like the h series blocks.
now that i look at it closer, i think it is just a BG, closed deck wouldnt have a line around it like that.

they look like they could be darton flanged sleeves , wich are stronger than a stock sleeve but not like a T sleeve , also might be a old JG block do to how the B/G looks like it is welded in and then milled down, but it is realy hard to tell

definately does not look sleeved just a BG... there would be a fine line where sleeves/ flange meet each other if they are aftermarket flanged sleeves. I am with everyone else, BG on stock sleeve.
I see were some say it could be maybe a really old jg block as they look like stock sleeves with a fine line where they liners were added... but not even close to benson sleeves at all.
I am still betting stock sleeves with BG all the way though.

Stock sleeves -w- BG. The old JG sleeves had thicker liners, there was just a sliver of aluminum between the sleeves, like this:

yup , now that there is a picutre to compair it to they are stock sleeves with a B/G for sure

That is what stock sleeves look like from the bottom. Stock sleeves are pressed in to the aluminum block just like aftermarket sleeves, they are just thinner.

yea i realize that, but when compared to the b18c1 block right next to it there is a noticable difference and even a slight lip is felt on top of the block between the aluminum and the actual sleave...(i have a feeling that is why this motor was blowing headgaskets)
