boost vs NA... whp vs whp
i was curious, if you have an all motor b20vtec making around 250-275whp .. how much whp on boost would it take to be comparable or win that race, the turbo would be on a b16, i know the torque makes a big difference as well, an the b16 has no torque but the turbo should make some torque.. what are you opinions on this

Well that would be hard, lets just say you have a b20 NA setup with 275 WHP in an EG Hatch. That much power NA should get you anywhere in the 11's or based on setup maybe even 10.9's if everything is set up but lets just say low 11's.
Now to make that much power with a B20 we are talking absolutely built motor in order to squeeze 275 WHP out of an NA setup.
If you have a stock B16 and want to run mid 11's with a turbo setup maybe a real good turbo kit with maybe 15 psi its hard to say.
Hopefully this answers the question - if you wanted a 10 second car in my opinion the easier way would be a turbo setup.

Re: boost vs NA... whp vs whp
i never mentioned psi, nor did i mention who would win, .. i was trying to say, i know alot of ppl say all motor power will beat boost power all the time, my question was, if someone was making close to 300whp on a b20 vtec.. how much boost power would it take for a b16 turbo to compete, i know its all the driver, etc.. idk it jus came to mind no reason to be ignorant, i know theres alot of dumb questions on here.. i jus wasnt sure exactly how it worked wen it came to na vs boost, cuz i know a 300whp all motor should beat a 300whp boost, is that correct? .. if its stupid just delete the post

Re: boost vs NA... whp vs whp
A turbo motor with the same power will have a much better power band and more torque sooner, so you're screwed if you're na

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: boost vs NA... whp vs whp
I haven't seen a good post yet in here, too many people Full of BS.
Peak WHP is just that. It doesn't matter how you get there be it N/A, Nitrous, or Boost. Where the difference comes is the POWERBAND. Saying a turbo will have a better powerband than a N/A engine is just idiotic. Are we talking a T6 turbo on a 1.6L or what? That statement is patheticly vague. Also, the REV limit also has just as much to do with it as transmission gearing, tire size, ect...
There are too many variables and to little details to even begin on this subject. You haven't listed track sizes, straight line, top speed, ect to even remotely come to a conclusion. This added to the fact that you clearly are lost and clueless to the point you can't even formulate a proper question, tells me you should start SEARCHING your dumb questions first.
Either way bench racing is not allowed here. To top it off you contradict yourself by asking which would be faster; wouldn't that be the same exact question as "who would win"?

Re: boost vs NA... whp vs whp
This.
And a b16 with a properly sized turbo for 275hp, proper tuning and supporting modifications will ultimately have a better, broader power band than a same displacement na motor... you'll see a broader torque curve and higher peak tq numbers as well as more torque lower in the power band
