boost a d15b7 or no ?

i see a lot of guys boostin d16z6 ok but what about a d15b7 is that a bad motor to boost on even if u get aftermarket piston and rods ???????? are what about a v-tec y8 head on a d15b7 block then boost it?????/

maximumjohnson420 11-28-2008 01:39 AM

first of all.. PLEASE do some research before you come in here asking questins that have been asked a MILLION times before

its called search

as for an answer

any motor can be reliably built and boosted you just gotta do it right so please go read a damn book

crxpro 11-28-2008 02:54 AM

boost it. If you can get your hands on a z6 then go for that. From my experience with dseries turbos, 1.6 liter motors have a larger selection of products to choose from (rods and pistons). Never the less, turboing the D is gonna be fun. I had a d16y7
(shitty intake manifold) and i made 205whp 185trq. It lasted a long time before i sold the kit and moved on. It was a great daily. you can handle about 200whp safely on a dseries.

RHD_H2b_EG6_Coupe 11-28-2008 05:29 AM

It will all depend on your goals. The d-series can be built pretty cheap. You need to figure out what looking for and your budget. But, overall spend a few days what find in search.

Search is your friend, more then you wanna know can be found on this site

its becuase currently you have 3 choices for rods, Crower, Pauter or custom and have you seen that Price tag? In a few months FJ distibutors will release its D15 rods for using vitaras in the D15b7 and you should start seeing ALOT more boosted B7's. Personally i like them for their higher R/S ratios than the 16 and once you get the longer rods for the vitaras that will go even higher. Slap a Vtec head on it and have a really nice turbo motor

Ngataworx 11-28-2008 06:32 AM

I think boosting the b7 would be so much fun. Since d15's can be found anywhere for dirt cheap. One of my friends back home in guam hit low 13's, I think also high 12's with a stock block D15B7 with a SSAC manifold, volvo t3, starion IC and hondata s300.

I wouldn't mind building a d15b7 turbo once fjt comes out with the rods.. fun!!

pheurton-skeurto 11-28-2008 07:23 AM

i turboed my old civic with a d15b7 a couple of years ago. it was a junkyard setup with the HF manifold/adaptor plate, and a 13b mitsu turbo. some weird saab or probe intercooler, dsm 450cc injectors, etc...it was tuned by a great tuner (corey at slowmotion here in C-Bus) on hondata-S200. i think that it put down like 155 hp and 165 tq. it was a really fun car. i delivered pizzas in it and had a blast. after about a year of boost the engine took a dump on itself and shit a rod out of the side of the block.

the stock rods are REALLY small. i can imagine with some custom rods, vitaras, and a healthy T25 (or similar) you could have a hell of a setup. as was said earlier, go to a junkyard and these engines will be everywhere.

phuerton thanks bro i found the vitaras pistons with hb rods package on ebay fa 520 with rings.my goal is 300 to 350 hp.but i think im just gonna boost the b18a its more displacement ill just sale the d15b7 with the 1992 4 door DA shell for 600 =) andybody want it ???

crxpro 11-28-2008 09:20 AM

i know its not about the sound of a turbo but i love the sound of a gt30r buying that turbo and i only want 300 to 30 hp is a overkill huh ?

IMO going with a D15B7, especially building one, just isn't a good idea. The Z6/Y8 heads flow better, are easier to find a cam for, and have more displacement. You'd have to build the head anyways to really use that better rod to stroke ratio. The only reason I'd use a D15 is because it was already in a car, and it was a daily beater.

The price of a decent Z6 longblock is hardly anything compaired to what you'll spend on building an entire motor + turbo kit, even if its all done by yourself with junkyard parts.

I'd definately recommend doing a B18B over a D15, as long as you know what you're doing. A quick peek into the boosted B18B thread will tell you the B18B has lots of potential, even before going with a vtec head. However, if its your first turbo setup, I'd slap a stock B7 in it first, and boost with a decent HMT-style setup. Then step up to the B later, maybe even build it while you rock the D15.

crxpro 11-28-2008 10:42 AM

yeah that sounds good b18a baby im just gonna sale the damn DA and the d15b7 like fa 600

you're buying a turbo because of the way it sounds? a gt30 is some serious businesss. if this is your first time boosting (especially with a goal of 300) a gt40 is a little overkill.

edit: nevermind. i just found out the OP is an idiot and he got banned.

lol this person is smart.

I boosted a D15 like 4 years ago. It had a 50trim on 12lbs for a year... yeah it was a freak until it broke a rod.
