Bluish white smoke coming from tailpipe under boost..... Does "Restore" work?
A friend of mine noticed when i was on the freeway and under boost in my JRSC'd Civic, a nice amount of bluish white smoke was coming out of my tailpipe. I think the rings might be going, but the engine i have in there only has about 95k miles on it, and I change the oil religiously at 3500 miles and only use Mobil 1. I was wonderin if anyone has used the stuf in a can called "Restore" or anything similar to this, and does it really work? Will this stuff damamge my engine even more? or will it actually help? Any info on this will be appreciated, and if worse comes to worse, I guess I will do a rebuild on it myself, or just change the rings at least...

I doubt the restore will do much, its already too late probably anyways. What will buy time however is switching to a thicker oil, prolly go non systhetic too since sythetic is thinner and more expesive. My boosted d15b7 recieved several more months of pure *** kicking with completely trashed rings after I switched to 20W50 with a v8 portion of that thick *** stop smoke. Prolly dont need to go that extreme but start with some 10w40 if your running 10w30 and work your way up.

Thanks for your input, I think I will try that too... but it's not really blowing out that much smoke, just a little bit under full boost, at around 80 MPH....

same problem here, same boosted motor, same supercharger. I run 20w50 and mix it with the lucas oil treatment, and it did slow the burning oil problem down alittle, but i am still due for a new set of rings as you will be too. There really isn't much you could do to really make a noticeable improvement besides getting new rings. As long as you keep an eye on your oil level you could drive it that way pretty much for the entire life of the motor (depending on how bad you are burning oil), but it is annoying and you probably should suck it up and get it fixed or fix it yourself

Thanks for your reply, I guess I will be doing the set of rings and learn how to rebuild my motor myself!! whoo hooo!!!
Maybe since I'm tearing my motor apart, I should upgrade to better rods and pistons, and rework my valvetrain....hmmmm?
Gotta start saving...
