Blown Headgasket on Poormans Type R Turbo
Well heres my story...
engine was rebuilt, head was decked, new seals cleaned and a minor port job..
block had new rings an bearings...
head gasket was stock replacement..
ran fine for 3000 miles before the turbo was installed...
now i put just about roughly 700miles w/ the turbo in and its now leaking coolant on the head gasket... noticed it for the past 2 days but didnt expect a major issue... as i was driving it today, i noticed the temp gauge reading higher than it usually is..
just wondering, what might be the cause of my headgasket failure.. what are the possibilities...
my set up:
USDM b16a3 Head w/ ITR Cams
JDM B18c Gsr Block
BOOST : 7psi
could the itr cams be a reason it started leaking due to the amount of boost it lets in causing a higher compression?

if not tuned than theres your answer.
you could have lifted the head from the boost if they are stock head bolts. if so, make sure the head isnt warped and get some ARP head studs and she should be good to go.

Nope, not at all. Cams don't raise your compression, sounds like your head is lifting, do you have arp head studs ? Check the torque of them if so to make sure there still correct.

Re: Blown Headgasket on Poormans Type R Turbo
It is tuned however I Upgraded the turbo shortly after... Another input... I was reading about headstuds... Considering this is a b16 head and gsr block... When the rebuild was done... I used my factory b16 head studs... Could the shortness if the studs contribute to the issue?...
Not having the money and time to take the motor out have have the block decked out n surfaced... I'm praying that a set of correct type r or gsr arp studs as well as another replacement headgasket would do the trick
