Default Blown head gasket on a turbo D16; what could be wrong?

and what do i need to check?

I'm looking to buy a 90 civic si hatch that has a turbo'd d16 already in it. IT has a blown head gasket though. Me and a friend went today to check it out but didnt have much luck. We deduced that it only has a coolant leak in 1 cylinder and the gas is probably bad (been sitting since september when the gasket blew).

Now; im pretty new to the honda scene and really new to the turbo turd (d series) motors so I'm just looking for guildlines on what to check to make sure im not going to need a billion dollars worth of machining to get this sob running.

IF the head is not warped will throwing a oem honda gasket in it make it drivable agian? and if i do pull the heads will the bolts need to be replaced?

they use composite gaskets which are bad to fail, this could be the only problem. if the car was driven much after it blew the gasket it could have melted a piston from detonation.hope this helps.

hmmm only thing i can say is do a compression test on it.

see if the results tell you anything.

maybe a leakdown test too?

how much is he asking for the car?
if its not much, then **** man, its just a headgasket, not too tough to fix
and if the price is right, then even if the whole motor is toast,
new(wel new used) dseries motors are dirt cheap

the price is very very very right
only $1800 for the car; it has:
-D16A6 thats suposedly been rebuilt
-300k miles on the odometer; BUT it looks like its been fucked with so who knows
-looks to be a greddy turbo kit installed with fmic
-all necessary gauges (boost, a/f, h2o temp, oil preasure)
-short throw shifter
-ricey gauges and various accents
-18" front 17" rear wheels; "aftermarket suspension" (from what the guy told me)
- so forth

there is a 99% chance im buying it and going to throw on a honda oem gasket and run it for a while. if its still not working right i'll pull the heads all the way off and go from there.

well you have to pull the head completely off to put on new gasket of course, hehe.

but yeah, sounds like a pretty good deal,
especially if it includes a complete greddy kit with FMIC,
thats worth at least a grand right there, maybe more considering its fully complete with FMIC/bov/gauges and such
and you should be able to sell the wheels too.

the mileage on the chassis is pretty high, but everything else sounds good to me.

does it have a clean title?
if it doesnt then that might be something to think about,
still prolly worth it tho, heh.
oh and hows the body? any dings/dents?
