Default Blocked catalytic converter = spooling problems?

Long story short. I got some pretty bad wheel hop while doing a burnout at the track last week and noticed that the car was having a hard time producing boost. It would take longer then usual and make less boost.

I thought maybe I had a boost leak but it wasn't the case. After further investigation I noticed that my oxygen sensor was bent. So I replaced it. Of course that didn't make my boost problem go away.

So I figured if the impact was hard enough to bend an o2 sensor. It might have been hard enough to also damage the catalytic converter. If there are broken pieces inside blocking the exhaust flow it could cause the turbo to not be able to spool properly.

To test that theory I unplugged the exhaust and drove the car open downpipe. Problem fixed!!!

Did this ever happen to anyone else?

I guess I have a few options now.

1- Replace the 3" highflow cat. with a new one.
2- Replace the cat. with a test pipe.
3- Remove the inside of the cat.

How hard is the third option. I've never done it but I've heard people have done it before. Can you just use a stick and poke it inside to break all the pieces and then take them out?
