Blaast performance "stage 1.5" turbine wheel upgrade
Anybody had experience with this upgrade from blaastperformance.com? I was thinking of trying it when I get mine rebuilt. I've heard nothing but good things about the shop but I was wondering how effective this upgrade is.

Re: Blaast performance "stage 1.5" turbine wheel upgrade (Andryzzle)
I like Guillame, spoke to him a couple times on the phone, had friends send him turbos. So don't take it as bashing the man when I say that seems like a lot of fiddling around to accomplish nothing I can see worth doing. Stage1 or stage 2 turbines are too small for D16, IMO.
What engine do you have, what power are you seeking, what manifold style, and where do you want to spool? I can tell you what turbo to go with.

i have an accord so its an f22b1, garrett t3-t04e 60 trim .63AR and spoolin performance ac compatable log mani. i run 11psi.
I was just looking at getting my turbo rebuilt soon and saw the upgrade. i figured if this actually worked, why not?

Your T3/T04E likely already has a stage 3 turbine which is larger than the turbine you are talking about. That turbo should spool like a T25 on a B-series unless there's something odd about your setup.

i guess i misunderstood what they are saying. i thought it would universally decrease spool time. is this not the case?

I would, but you should be making boost from 2500 rpms on with your current turbo, if not sooner.

Going from a stg1 to a stg1.5 would decrease spool, as would going from a stg3 to a stg1.5. The problem with the 3-to-1.5 (especially on a 2.2L) is that you will loose a very noticable amount of mid-range & top-end. JD is saying that turbo should be spooling fast enough where gaining 400rpm on the low-end is not worth taking all the power from the rest of the power band.
