For the past 6 months I have been using CM stage 6 (center iron disc) because it was cheap and it held up on most race cars. Well it didn't hold up on a street car for daily driving. I went through 2 clutchs in the past 6 months, each time I managed to blow the clutch up. The splines on the disc were all smooth for some odd reason. The splines are the grooves on the middle of the disc, well they were non existent on my discs now. It was time to step up and shop for a new clutch.

At first I was looking ATTS clutchs because I use to hear all the rave about them on road racing cars. After doing some homework, I found out that they wont hold up on force induction cars because they were only ment for NA cars. The US sales rep. said it wouldn't support the amt of torque my motor would produce.

Next company I was looking into was OS Giken. Heard many good reviews about this clutch from other racers and shops. Expensive just like all the other clutchs. Stock pedal feel and it grabs hard. Only downside is that OS is on the other side of the earth. I didnt feel comfortable because there wouldn't be any tech help in the US.

Another company I was looking into was Exedy. Heard many great things about the twin disc from other shops. Other shops were raving about how good it look etc, but no one has ever used it. So how can they rave about it, if they never personally used it. I opted out and decided to wait untill others that I knew used it.

Finally I looked into Tilton. We have used the tilton twin disc in the past on our Speed vision car (now World Challenge.) It held up perfectly fine, reving up to 10k for one season. After seeing how much abuse it took after one full season and still holding up. I was a little concerned about the extra torque I would be putting on it so I called up tilton and asked them for their advice. Offcourse they wanted me to get the carbon twin disc. I was all interested to hear about the carbon twin disc until I heard the price. They wanted $3500 for it. I couldn't justify spending $3500 on a clutch for my street car. After much debate I ended up with the Twin disc semi metallic clutch, which is the same one we used on the WC car.

Let me tell you first hand that the clutch is absolutely amazing. It grabs like a **** yet still light pedal feel. At first when I got into the car I mashed the pedal cause I was used to CM Stage6 pedal feel. Well I almost sent my clutch pedal through the floor. I drove it around and the response from the clutch was perfect (wasn't lazy). Another problem that I had with the CM was it wouldn't disengage fast enough while at higher rpms, none of that from the tilton.

In the end, I think, I made the right decision with the tilton. With the lighter flywheel the rpms climb up so much smoother and the boost comes in so crisp and clean. The whole clutch assembled with the flywheel weighs in at just a little over 10lbs.

Cliff notes : 2 CM stage 6's went dead in the span of 6 months. Went shopping, decided to go with Tilton twin disc. Loving the new clutch.

nicey nice Collin . i might get one too in the future, i wanna see how My ACT holds up 1st. it just sucks becuase of the price on thme , but im sure they sare more thna worth it

Sorry not to be picky but don't you mean cerametallic not semi metallic....

The real question I have is how streetable is it for you? Took a little getting familar with? Also how are you liking or disliking the really lightweight flywheel?
and last... How much did you end up paying for it?

You know what I meant.
Very streetable, got with it in a few mins. Much more streetable then any previous clutch. I'm loving it everything, the flywheel, clutch, etc..

Paid a little over $1,000 for it.

if you dont mind me asking, why didnt you go with an Action clutch? Also what flywheel is that?

I know j/p anyways..... I'm glad you find it streetable. I know a local shop here uses a tilton on their h22t hatch race car and since they switched to it (I think 2 years now) they haven't had a clutch problem since. Said it also improved shifting were having problems getting it in gear at high rpms, but not since....

My only concern was streetability... Obviously the engagement is not going to be stock , but the car is going to see a lot of street time so I was wondering....

I think my car would break the action clutch in pieces... Literally.

I meant stage 5 but they have a few stage 5's so i call mines stage 6.

Very nice choice. I wish i would have spent the extra money and went with the Tilton. I hope I dont have any problems with the CM stage4 that I decided on with this setup.

the clutchmaster discs are nearly identical including the pressure plate. the flywheel is different. I have had such good luck with mine on the street pushing well over 500whp and into the 600 range on high boost. driving the car 3-4 days a week for over a year. maybe i was lucky so far.

Nice choice on the tilton. It may seem like a lot, but after buying a couple single disk the price evens out.

i blew the **** out of my act xtreme w/ 6 puck in about 3 months - Will the tilton hold up to the daily drivability or will it crap out like the single discs do? Also, what is the benifit of 2 discs, vs 1?
